THE CHARGE OF WILFUL MURDER AGAINST THOMAS HALL, v Dunedin, Jan. 21. Mr Justice Williams in bis charge to the Grand Jury, 'said xi|cidentally : “ The medical does not seem to have been very fully brought out at the preliminary enquiry,, and possibly, from ; the quantity of antimony found in the body and from the I, 'appearances of the different organs the doctors insy be able to draw some further inferences material lo the case.” Alter stating the facts,of tlie case, He said: “ The case as disclosed by, the depositions is shortly this t\r- Cain’s death was accelerated by antimony, and and the hypothesisof its Accidental administration, or .of its having; Been wilfully taken by Cain is unprobable ; Hall had antimony* in ‘ his. and had studied.'the sqbject:' of antiraonial poisoning ; Hall was urgently in want of money and Cain’s death would help to get him money. If you think it prtma facie evidence that Cain’s, death was accelerated even ip the smallest degree by antimony wilfully administered by Hall you should jfind a true bill.” ’■ I ' Medical evidence having been | given that. Mrs Newtonand Mrs Bjrjdge V Wren were confined this' Week,! their depositions were,admitted.' The Grand Jury returned a true Bill at 12,40 pan. against Hall fortthp wilful murder of Oajjfain Cain. |
