A FICKLE-MINDED BRIDEGROOM.
At the Chester assisei, before Mr Justice Wills,; Mery Jones, alias Biehards, twentyfiye, pleaded guilty to a. charge of falsification of a marriage entry on May 12th last, at Welshpool. The facte of the cate, which are of an extraordinary character, were narrated by the Judge in pasting sentence. Hie Lordship said that one William Evans gave notice to be married to another woman, and attended os a certain day to be married, but he came too late by half an hoar, and could not be married that day. The wedding was fixed for the next day, bat before that oonolsded he would rather marry the prisoner than the other person. [Laughter.] The accused also seemed to have been willing to contract marriage at a rery short notice, and she accordingly went to the Registrar, arid represented herself as the other young woman, and got married in that name,' She had committed a very serious offence } she had also brought a very heavr penalty upon herself,’ for her marriage waa illegal. Wiliam Ivans, who had behaved like a scoundrel in this matter, had most rightly received severe punishment already, and the prisoner herself had been very properly brought to justice, but he thought she had suffered enough. She bad been in prison five months, besides that punishment which she had brought upon herself of having contracted a marriage which was none. The sentence was that she should be imprisoned I for one day, and that meant that she would now be discharged.,. If it was not that somebody else had led her into he should have dealt severely with her.
