AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
A meeting of the Arowbenna Town Board was held at Mr Lee’s residence on Thursday evening last. Present— Messrs Lee (Chairman), Edgeler, Proudlocb, Austin, and Story, The Clerk (Mr Dyson) was in attendance. MINUTES. The minutes of the prerious meeting were read and confirmed. i. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence wais read— Prom the Property Tax Commis--1 sioner, informing the Board that he had ( forwarded a voucher for the payment of £ls, an advance of 75 per cent on the , subsidy due to the Board under the . Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885 Amendment Act 1886. From Mr McCann, stating that be had disposed of his property in Arowhenua, and asking that Mr Craig’s name be substituted for bis on the rate roll,—The request was granted. From Mr Meyer, asking that My Vallender’s name be placed on the rate roll instead of bis,—lt was decided to do so. DOO COLLARS, ETC. Tbe Clerk stated that he had received the dog collars and receipt book for isms; also the Bank book. On the motion of M> Story, seconded by Mr Proud lock, it was resolved that the fee for dog registration should ta 10s, and that all dogs in tbe Arowbenna Town District must be registered by the Ist o£ February. THE SUBSIDY FROM HALE OF LANDS. The subject of the subsidy accruing from the sale of lands in tbe Arowbenua Township wee again brought np. Mr Story was of opinion that the cause of tbe delay was that it was holiday time. He should not be surprised to see the money come to band within: the next fortnight. The Clerk stated that tbe money was in the Treasury, and the Governor’s warrant for payment of same was all that was necessary. Mr Edgeler was in favor of writing a letter to Mr McKerrow, bat the meeting was against such a step, considering it useless, Farther consideration of tbe matter was posptoned till next Board meeting. AFPOINTMENT OF LAWYER TO THE BOARD. Mr Edgeler wished to know who was their lawyer ? The Chairman said that np to the present Mr Aspioall had done all that was necessary. They were in difficulties, and he thought it would be better to appoint a lawyer to tbe Board. Mr Proudlock wished to know if it was customary for such bodies, to have a lawyer ? The Chairman said that it was the usual thing, Tbe Government were not treating them fair in neglecting to send tbe subsidy from land sales, The Board had now been formed five months, and if they bad received it four months ago, they would have had by now a considerable sum in tbe shape of interest. They might want legal advice in the matter. However, he thought the permanent appointment should be postponed until they had received tbe tfloney, ; The suggestion was ap- , proved of, and the subject dropped, i reserves. The Chairman said he thought it was advissble tQ|Write to Mr B*ker to push tbe matter of reserves.: He had < been spoken to by persons wishing to i
'ease the reserves, and till the wait settled they would be losing Mr Story proposed, Mr seconded, and it was carried—" That the Clerk be instructed to write to Mr 'HB Baker, asking him if anything had been " done re resting the reserves in the name of the Town Board, and, if not, to request him to push matters, as the U .wd were placed at a great inconvenience owing to not being able to let them in the meantime." .ACCOUNTS. - Accounts to the amount of £5 10s 2d were passed for payment. DATE OF MEETINGS. On the motion of Mr Story, seconded by Mr Edgeler, it was resolved to hold the meetings of the Board on the second Wednesday in each month, The Board then adjourned till the second Wfdnesday in February,
