AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

TIMARC. Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited) reports for the week ended Friday, Dec. 31st, 1886, as follows :

Cattle—Fat are now in plentiful supply with only a limited demand. Quotations are steadily declining, and, are not more than 20a per 100)bs for prime quality, and 15s to 17s 6d for medium.

Sheep—At the Washdyke yards large pjtries have b*e« coming forward, all good to choice quality mutton. Owing to the supplies being in excess of the demand prices have suffered, crossbred wethers bringing from 6s 6d to 8s ; do ewes, 3a 6d to 4s} 6d. Stores— The continued dry weather has effected the valueß of this stock, and prices have receded 3d to 4d per head. At the special sale of fat and store sheep held at the Washdyke yardß, our entry of 4620 sold as follows:—600 4-tooth halfbred wetherß, 6s 4d; 520 2-tooth crossbred calls, 2?; 3500 half and threequarter bred 2-tooths, in very low condition 2s 6d to 2s lOd. Private Sales.—We have placed 1020 prime quality crossbred wethers for freezing ; 2000 three-quarter-2»tooths; 1520 half-bred 2-tooths at market values, and have several other lines under offer.

Sheepskins.—Quotations 8d to lOd for butchers and factory pelts; Is to Is 3d for lamb skins ; country lots, loose and in bales, i\ to 5d per lb. Hides.—A good demand. We quote best heavies, dry and clean, 4d per lb ; medium weights, 3d to 3si ; light and inferior, 2d to 2£d. We have disposed of a large number at the above quotations. Tallow and Fat-Rough, 8b to 9s 6d per cwt.

ASH6URTON MARKETS. Mr E, G. Stayeley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited; reports an the Ashburton sale, 4th inst., »s follows : There were only small entries of stock, the attendance being less than usual, and little interest was taken in the proceed* ingß. Quotations show that the sale w« one of the worst that we hare experienced. Fat heifers made £5 Is ; stere cattle were very difficult to quit, only a few being placed at nomiual values. Fat crossbred ewes brought 5s ; do 2-tooths mixed ewes, 6s 3d ; fat lambs, 3s 8d ; small crossbred hoggets, 2s Id and 2s 8d ; aged ewes and lambs, Is and Is 7d each counting all.
