GERALDINE WOOL SALE,
Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report the first sale of wool for the season at their Rooms, Geraldine, on Tuesday the 28th December, 1886. Considering the slight depression at present existing in the wool market the sale on the whole was a very successful one. We append a list of prices realised :

Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports en the Tinwald sale, 28th itist., as follows : Small entries of Htock c«me forward, and the attendance was btlow the average. The following were the principal sales :—Cattle—Fat heifers, £4 2s 6d ; forward steers, £4 ss; heifers, in forward condition, £2 19« 3d ; dry cows, £8 2b 6d. Sheep—Fat crossbred ewes, 3s and 5s ; fat lambs, 5s 3d and 6s 2d j forward two-tooth crossbreds, i* lOd ; aged crossbred eweß, in wool, with lambs, 4s Id. ENGLISH MARJfBTS. The following private telegram was received in Cbristefaurch on Tuesday : " The wheat market is strong in consequence of political complications. Cali* .fornian cargoes for shipment in December are saleable at 38s. The Americans are firm in demand for higher prices."
