RANGITATA ISLAND SUNDAY SCHOOL.

The annual treat was held on Christmas day and was largely attended, there being visitors from Cbristchurcb,, Tat Tapn, Tinwald, Feel Forest, and Temnka. All kinds of sport* were indulged in with great spirit during; the day. At 5 o'clock the children were provided with tea given by Mesdames Buxton and Grainger, • number of other* contributing, after which a public tea was provided and was well patronised. The tablet were pre* sided over by Mesdames Buxton, Grainger, Snell and Wells, and Miss, Buxton and S. Grainger. After the good things had been done justice to, amusements were •' again cnrried on till dark, when a pnblio .meeting w*s held. Tbe Superintendent (Mr Buxton) presided and the prizes to the children as follows: ' Ist 01 ass—Sarah Grainger, 1; Ellen Watts, 2; Jane Back, 3 ; Lucy Snell, 4; Elizibeth Grainger, 5; : ,—; Watts, 6 ; Minnie Snell, 7; Mary Scott, 8. 2nd Class—Emma Graiager, 1; Rebecca Scott, 2; Jessie Scott, 3; Alice Snell, 4; Elizi Buck, 6; Minnie Robertson, 6; Emily Snell, 7 ; Annie Buxton, 8; Elsie Watts, 9. 3rd Class—Herbert Qrsinger, I; Herbert Watts, 2; James Scott, 3; Robert Buckj 4; William Grainger, 6*; William Stevens, 6. The Chairman then spoke very en> courngingly to both teachers and children, telling them they had donejveiry well, and bad a balance in hand of £6 to stsrt another year with. To be put of debt, be said, was sometimes a very.! bad thing, it made them want to get into debt, but he hoped they would try and keep out. A hearty vote of thanks was proposed and seconded to the ladies who presided the tea, also to the teachers, after which the Chairman nounced the, ; Benediction. The children were then treated to a second lot of ants, sweets, etc., which made them go to their several homes rejoicing after spending a very enjoyable day. On Sunday, 25fcb, the bunday School anniversary sermons were preached, afternoon and evening, by Mr Matthew Grainger, of Methven. In the afternoon he took his text from Joshua xxiv., 15, "But as for me'"and my hoase we will serve the Lord." In the evening he spoke from Hebrews ii., 3, " How shall we escape if We neglact so great salva. tion." Mr Thos. Buxton presided at the organ, the choir singing some vary nice bymns which they had beeu practicing. Both services were well attended.
