Loans] to Local Bodies.— The Colonial Treasurer has received applications under tbs Local Bodies Loans Act for £286,667, from which has to' be deducted amounts included from the second year, amounts asked to pay off overdrafts which could not be assented founder the Act, and applications not sent in in time. After these deductions are made there remains a total number of formal applications to be dealt with amount ing to £199,744, divided as follows Counties, £127,764 ; Road Boards, £3BO ; Town Boards, £1400; Boroughs, £3200} River Board, £IOOO. The Treasurer has intimated to the bodies whose applications came in too late that be will consider them if the ratepayers reject some of the loans provisionally granted. Af horse in Wanganui has died from the effects of the bite of a katipo. The animal was bit in the mouth, with the result that the tongue swelled up to an enortnors size, and prevented any food being partaken of.
