TEMUKA SCHOOL CONCERT.
The ’concert in aid , of the funds bf ; the Teinuka Dittrist High’'School, held in the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, last Thursday evening, was s groat success. There was s larger attendance, andf t|ie performance passed pff very torily. I'he, performance opened with l ah action song by a fit ageful of small children, who sang excellently, and, gavel evidence of baying been care fully trained. Miss Rowe, who had trained them, Was unable to attend, owing to having to go to the pupil- teachers’ examination in, Timgru,' bather, place wjae ably filled by Miss’* Russell!'” This was, .followed ;by a song, entitled T%Pilo| given by,; . of the more advanced children, with MrßryarjS! as conductor. It was exceedingly .well sung, as was also “Home, Sweet given by the same children an the" second part, Mr&'Eoster, sang “ Steering excel lent duet yvitjh Mrs Rout lie sang— tlto' “ Gipsy ’Countess.”' In 1 the J BeCehd part h p was encored for his rendering: of “ The Gallants of England,” and responded by giving “ The Tar’s Farewell.” Mrs Rout was in splendid voice, and sang “ Mabnl ” in a delightful manner, but that beautiful gong “ Ruby,” which she gave in the second part, was the gem par excellence *of the concert. 1 ' : For this she’ received |an enthnsiastic .encore, and. responded -bjf’ singing ** Oomiq* Through the Rye in that fascinating way so- peculiarly her own. Mr Early sang “ The Little, Hero,” and in the second part he gave the song “ Sailing ” with great effect, and was encored. Mr Early appeared for the first time on the Teinuka stage, and. it must be admitted that be is a great acquisition to the singing talent of Temoka. ‘‘ The Bridge • of; Giglis ” was given in a very sweet voice by Miss Brown, and a comic song entitled “ Only One,”' by .Mr .Wilkinson,'” literally .hrpugbt down thp Rous's; as 1 an encore , fie gave “ lip) Very, Man.” Subsequently; hssang,TiJ jnost amusingsong with; greater effect, and was again encored, when he gave a local Bqng'foll'pl excellent hits. Ho literally convulsed the audience -with laughter. Mifs Ladbropke sang *' Golden, Lave'” And also' “ Jly Country.” She was in excellent voice, and sang songs Weil, and witjb Mrs Hargreaves, she sang t the duet Lar-. bard Watch ” in a manner that won great appianse. Miss Franks recited a piece entitled “ Kara Avis ” with good effect, and Mr, W. Storey, junr,, gave a recitation entitled “ The Charge of The Highland Brigade ” in a very clever manner. Miss. ? Lee highly i applauded for her singing- of “ The ; Lights’ of London Town,” and the performance was brought to a close with the singing of “ God Save the Queen.” The accompaniments were played; by .MrsHayhurst, Mrs Hargreaves, and Miss Blytb in a very able manner. Mr Root, the nndefatigable Secretary of the School Committee, deserves great ■ prais& for the success which crowned bis efforts in getting qp the concert.
