The Spring Meeting of the Ashburton Racing Club commenced on Thursday, The weather was fine, and there was, (a good attendance. Welter Handicap, of 45 sots ; second horse 5 sots. Two miles. — Mr J. Ralston’s Jackal 1, Mr W. Weston’s Aroha 2, Ashburton Cup Handicap, of 125 sovs ,; second horse 10 sovs. One mile and a-half.—Mr D. O’Brien’s Rnbina 1, Mr J. E. Pilbrow’slDerwentor 2. County Plate Handicap, of 40 sovs,; second horse 5 sovs. One mile and'a quarter.—Mr F, Hobbs’ Melville 1, Mr 7, Werner’s Zealot 2. Post Stakes, of 15 sovs ; catch weights. One mile.—Mr-R. Crocker’s Nellie 1, Messrs M. and C. Hobbs’ Red Robin 2. Spring Handicap, of 50 sots. Threequarters of a mile.—Mr F. Hobbs’ Jack 1, Mr R. Blackbam’s Gaiety 2. The following events were decided yesterday:— The first event, the Hurdles, of 50 eovs, resulted in a walk-over for Aroha, Moody being scratched. Racing Club Handicap, of 100 sovs • One and a-half miles.—Mr Dl O’Brien’s Rubioa 1, Mr M. Shorwin’s Quibble 2. Ladies’ Purse, of 25 sovs. One and a-half miles.—Quibble 1, Moody 2.
