ASHBURTON MARKETS. Mr E, G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reports bn the stock sale on Tuesday as follows ; At £he Ashburton sale to-day there were moderate entries of stock, and an average attendance, The sale was dull throughout. Fat cows £5 2s 6d to £6 7s 6d, forward bullocks, £6 ss, fat mixed crossbrr Is 6s 6d to 7a 6d, do wethers 7s 9d, medium crossbred hoggets in wool 5s 9d to 6s, superior do 9s Id, shorn do 3s 2d to 3s lOd, crossbred ewes in wool with 66 per cent lambs 7s 9d. ENGLISH MARKETS. London Dec. 4. Australian tallow—Beef, average quality, has declined Is, and is now at 25s 6d. Mutton remains at 30s. Dec, 5. Wheat has farther advanced 6d on the spot and la on arrival. A cargo of Australian February-March shipment sold at 36s 6d. Flour is rising. Superfine quality is 25a to 265. Wool—Fifty thousand bales are catalogued, and 10,000 withdrawn. Tbe market is irregular, and prices are receding. Greasy is £d to Id, scoured, to l£d, faulty I£d to 2£d below September closing rates. Crossbreds average Id reduction. Competition for the new clip is better, and there is only a nominal reduction in finer sorts. The following private telegram, dated London December 4th, was received in Christchurch on Monday: “Wheat market still continues firm. Californian cargoes, for October shipment, 36s 6d; for November shipment, 37a j for December, January, and February, 37s 3d ; for January, February, and March, 37s 6d. This is a total rise {of ‘3s per quarter all round from the middle of October sales.”
