Al ill'' Wellington Magistrate Cnu.t, yesterday, a pawnbrokers assistant was fined £5 md costs for accepting goods in pawn from a lad under 14 years of age. At Christchurch last Tuesday night James Mills’ tailor’s shop in Colombo street was broken into and clothes to the value of £25 were abstracted. The burglar evidently entered through the window. The orders issued f o Lieut. Andrews to proceed to England, thence to join the Essex regiment in Egypt, have been countermanded. It is expected he will be ordered to India. At a meeting of the creditors of Ross and McNeill, Ironmongers, Dunedin, held yesterday, the debts represented £5869 and the assets £B3OO. The principal unsecured creditors are Keep Bros., Birmingham, £1683; City Corporation, £340; Bank of New Zealand, £2950. Mr Black, of the New Zealand Hardware Company, was appointed supervisor. Mr Smith, of the Kaikoura police force, met with an accident yesterday morning while using Auckland-made ammunition at rifle practice. The cartridge bursting, was blown out of the breech, which was twisted considerably, and was projected backward, striking him on the left eye and partially stunning him. Several cartridges examined show very faulty construction. At the inquest at Auckland on Theodore Behrens, who shot himself on Monday morning, the evideribe showed that the deceased became dispirited after working on the Government relief works, and said he would leave the country at once. A verdict of “ temporary insanity” was returned. At a meeting at Auckland last Tuesday night in connection with the Presbyterian City Mission, the report showed a debit balance of about £7O. it was resolved to make a special effort to raise funds and continue a missionary who is doing good work. The wall of the new reservoir at Ponsonby (Auckland), has been found to be unseoure, a large crack having been discovered in the north front. It is fortunate the break happened before the reservoir was filled with water,
