ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Not. 30. The Committee of the Imperial Institute bare invited the Agents-General to, meet for the purpose of discussing the points in which the disagreement had arisen. The east brought against Mr John Dillon for intimidation has been adjourned until the 11th.inst. , > It is likely that M. Zabanoff will succeed M. de Giers as Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs. . The Conncil of Cambridge University recommend that the University of New Zealand should be affiliated to Cam* bridge. Mr John Morley, speaking at Howick, Roxburgh, declared that the Government had entered upon a fatal course in Ireland. M. Waddington, the French Ambassador in London, is pressing for a reopening of the Suez Canal Conference, Dec. 6. Mr John Morley, in addressing a public meeting at Hawick last night, declared that the outlook in Ireland at present was very bad, and social order in that country and a settlement of the land question were not obtainable without Home Rale. A conference between the Committee ,oi the Imperial Institute and the AgentsGeneral took place tr-day, when the points of disagreement in relation to the management of the Institute were discussed, The proceedings were of a most satisfactory character, and the Committee promised that colonial legislation should be fully secured. All suggestions made by the AgentsGeneral will be carried out, but the nature of their suggestions has not transpired. AUSTRALIAN CABLE. Melbourne, Deo. 1. The Union Co.’s s.s. Tarawera arrived this morning. The Waihora sailed this afternoon for the Bluff. In the Legislative Assembly this afternoon, Mr Gillies announced that an International Exh : bition would be held in Melbourne in 1888. The men who stuck up the National Bank of Australasia at Albert Park have been committed for trial. Bail was refused. Dec. I. Mr Giilies, the Premier, bias written to the Premier of New South Wales expressing a hope that the International Exhibition in Melbourne in 1888 will not clash with the centenary celebrations in Sydney. Sir Patrick.; Jennings has indirectly intimated bis belief, tbat the two events will in no wise clash. Thes.s. South Australia, which arrived to-day from Adelaide, brought 100 returned miners from the Teefculpa goldfields. Sydney, Dec. 1. The s.s. Alameda sailed to-day for Auckland, en route for San Francisco. The cricket match Shaw-Lillywhite’s team v. the Oootamundra team was concluded to-day, and resulted in the visitors winning by ten wickets. Messrs Barnes, Pbilp add C«., agents for the British India Steam Navigation Company, have made an offer for the purchase of the entire fleet and wharves of the A.is N. Company. It is statvd that the amount offered is one million . Dec. 2. The Wairarapa sailed this afternoon, for Auckland. The latest reports frbm the Kimberley goldfields state that no perhaant-m field has yet been discovered. Hitherto only prospering was being carried on. Diggers continue to arrive at Derby, Cambridge Gulf, from the goldfields. Sums of them bring a fair amount of gold. The diggers are in good health. Business at Derby, Cambridge Gulf, is dull. report that, very rich yields are being obtained. ' ; )/Dpc. 2. The Bank at Teetnlpa has purchased - 300ozs of gold from 8 diggers in the , neighborhood pince Monday, last. Water is reported to-be very scarce dmthe goldfield.
