Mr Phipp, steward of the barque Wave Queen, who met with serious injuries while the vessel was discharging some time ago, died at Wellington last Thursday night. Wm. Williams, an A.B. of the ship Timaru, was committed for trial at Wellington, yesterday, on a charge of stabbing Mr A. Bowling, the chief officer, during the passage from London. At Wellington, yesterday, John Rose and Edward Seager were fined £5 and treble tax for neglecting to send in Property Tax returns. Major Boddam of the permanent militia staff has been appointed to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the New Zealand militia. At Napier on Thursday evening, a man named Milner on returning home after work found hia wife under the influence of liquor. An altercation ensued, and the woman attacked him with a carving knife, severely weunding him on the wrist and knee. The result of the prosecution against Iredale at Hawera, is that the rape charge was withdrawn, and ho was on Thursday morning committed for trial for perjury.
