London, Not. 25. The refusals of the Irish tenantry to pay their rent are increasing. Sir George Bowen has been created a member of the Privy Council. Lord Salisbury, in reply to the resolutions passed by the London Socialists, states that their proposals will tend to intensify the great distress. Sir P. G. Owen gave a promise to Mr Bqeisto that the Victorian School of Design would be affiliated to the South Kensington School of Art.
Mr J. Morton has assured Cardinal Manning that his scheme, whereby emigrants might be assisted by State loans, would not be successful. Another encounter has taken place at Kerry between the moonlighters and a body of police, a heavy fusilade being kept np on both sides. ! Ultimately eight incendiaries were captured.
The libel action Adams v. Lord Coleridge, Lord Chief Justice, was concluded to-day, and resulted in a verdict for the defendant. Nov. 26.
The Cambridge University has conferred upon Professor McOovy, of Melbourne, the Doctorsbip of Science, Mr F. W, Chesion, Secretary of the Aborigines Society, writes to the Times complaining that the natives of Fiji have not received adequate legal protection.
The Standard states that the English Government, in deference to the wishes of China, will consider the question of the occupation of Port Hamilton, and will possibly agree to occupy instead a position close to the mainland of Corea.
An aquatic carnival was held on the Thames this afternoon in honor of Beach, the champion sculler. An extraordinary meeting of the Council has been held in Dublin Castle, General Bulier being present, It reported that reselutions were passed to the effect that energetic measures be taken for the repression ot illegal combination on the part of the Irish tenantry ia refusing to pay rent. Nov. 27. The French Press are clamoring for an increase of the army. Messrs O’Brien, Dillon, and Lakley, M.P.’s, are inciting the Irish tenants to offer rents less 25 per cent., and if that is refused to lodge the amount with the trustees to maintain and defend those evicted. The landlords have lately made great reductions in the rents, and it is expected that the National League and the United Ireland will endeavor to suppress any opposition to the payment of reduced rents.
The Agent-General of Victoria had an interview to-day with Sir Robert Herbert, Permanent Under-Secretary for the Colonies. He, on behalf of bis Government, asked that the AgentsGeneral might, be kept informed as to the diplomatic correspondence between the British and French Governments relative to the New Hebrides, and the transportation of reoidivistes to New Caledonia. He also requested that information as to the British proposals regarding the New Hebrides, and to objections which bad been raised by the French Government to these proposes, should be imparted to the AgentsGeneral before a settlement between the two Governments should be finally concluded. Sir Robert Herbert stated be would refer the matter to the Hon. E, Stanhope, who, he believed, would acquiesce in Sir Graham Berry’s request. The case in which Lady Colin Campbell applies for a divorce from her busband has commenced, and the details are of a revolting nature, The Government will prosecute Mr Dillon for seditious speeches made by him. Mr John Dillon, M.P, for Mayo, has been summoned to appear before the Court of Queen’s Bench, Dublin, to answer to a charge of intimidation iu bis recent public speeches. Berlin, Nov. 25.

The German Parliament was opened to-day by the Emperor, who in his speech declared that the policy of Germany would be to exert her influence in main-
taining an agreement among the Powers, This policy, he stated, was the result of. Germany’s earnest desire for tt peace, and for preserving the close friendship of her neighbors. Paris, Nov, 25. A portion of the partisan ; Press is reviving the controversy in reference to the government of Egypt and the British occupation of that country. Mklboubhb, Not. 26. Arrived—S.H. Waihora. Sydkbt, Not. 26. Sailed—Tekapc, s.a., for Wellington,. A fira broke out to-day on the pre-, mises of the “ Percioui ” Company, ibfl building being completely, gutted. The premises were insured to the extent of £30,000, the New Zealand Insurance Company and the National Insurance Company of New Zealand being affected. Nov. 28. Arrived—Wairarapa, A collision occurred last night off the town of Kiama between the ships Angerona and Orongi. The vessel* were both considerably damaged, and were compelled to return to port to-day,, but no lives were lost. . The trial of the prisoners implicated in the Mount Rennie outrage concluded yesterday. Hill, Duffy, Newman, Donnelau, Martin, Boyce, Miller, Read, and Keegan were found guilty, and sentenced to death. The other prisoners were acquitted.
