At a meeting of the Christchurch Charitable Aid Board on Wednesday one of the members, Mr W. 0. Walker, inquired why it was that the benevolent institutions in Otago cost £IO,OOO, while in Canterbury they were ahuble that amount. The chairman said that the figures showed about £12,000 for Otogo, and £16,600 for Canterbury. From information he had received be understood that a large number of cases of distress in Otago received little or ho attention, while in Canterbury r no’ caSes werh neglected.
