AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. TIMARU. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday as follows; Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazaar on the 16th instant, our entry of. over 40 Lead Comprised a email consignment bf draught colts and fillies from Otago abd some really good' locally-owned farm horses. Competition throughout the sale was spirited, and prices realised favorable to sellers. Our entry to-day was . small, and with few exceptions the quality was below mediocrity. Light harness horses and hacks of a good useful stamp are much enquired for, and owners who have any such to dispose of should not let slip the present opportunity to quit them. We quote best draughts at from £l9 to £2B ; medium, £l2 to £l6 10a; medium £4 to £7los.
Cattle—At Washdyke on Thursday the entry of fat afad stores was rather better than that of late.' For the former there was but little demand, and only a small proportion changed hands, owing, partly, to some of the trade having small supplies on hand, but chiefiy to tbe fact that owners’ estimates of values were too high. We entered and, sold 61 head of stoie cattle at an advance on late rates. At Makikihi, on .tbe JLlth instant, we sold yearlings at 21s per head, 2 ye nr-olds at from £3 12s 6d to £3 15s per head. Sheep—Fine weather, and the immediate prospect of a plentiful supply of grass may: be considered the principal causes for Thursday’s market being the liveliest we have experienced for some time back. Fat Sheep were in good supply and the various lots were sold. Store sheep were also in good demand. •W e gold on account of Messrs M. Quinn, Mitchell, Page, Bayley, McMaslef, Taite; and Goodwin, as follows 61 fat' khee|}, at 35a 3d; 22 at Jss 7d ; 50 at 15s 8d ; 40 at lls 5d ; GO shorn at Ts3d ; 52 crossbred hoggets at 10a 6d ; 39 crossbred ewes at da ?d ; 136 ewes and wethers, half fat, at 11s Id ; 122 crossbred ewes with lambs at 8s 31 ; 40 merino ewes, 3s 4d ; and privately, 530 crossbred hoggets and 194 csossbreds. Skins—At our regular Sale on Wednesday we catalogued over 2000 skins. Prices were a shade over former quotations, butchers’ beat realising up to 6s 9d.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, Oct. 22. AT Goldsborough Company’s usual weekly wool sale , there was a poor attendance of Home and foreign buyers. Competition for'all lots' wttf at 'slightly ensi-r rotes, especially, for faulty ' Wools,' which are .-lower thin at the commencement.oT, the session. Greasy merino sold op to lOfl ipc-r lb ; scoured up to IB£d, Sydney, Oct. 22, i New Zealand wheal, 4s 2d'; oats, 2s 6d ; maize, 8s id per 561bs, Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces* £25. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Oct. 21. Kauri gum has risen £1 per ton, and is now quoted at £ll 15a per cwt. Oct. 22. Adelaide wheat is quoted at 35s ; Adelaide fiour, 24s ; New Zealand wheat, from 28» to 335. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,620,000 quarters, being an increase for tbe week ot 80,000 quarters. Beef tallow is quoted at 24s ; mutton, 26s 6d.
