AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
Ad adjourned meeting of the above Board was held last Tuesday evening at Mr'Lre's residenc'e.' Present—Messrs Lea (ChairmanJ, Austin, Edgeler,- : »nd Proudlockj : The^Clerk, Mr Dyson, was in attendance. MINUTES. ; Thei mi.nutes;j)f the previous: meeting were read and confirmed. THE BOARD'S COTTAGES. The Clerk informed the Board that, as instructed at last meeting, be had served the notices 1 on the tenant's occupying the Board's cottages, informing them that after the 11th October a rental of;2s 6d per week would be charged.— The Chairman wished to know if the Clerk had received anj acknowledgment of the notices.—The Clerk stated that he had seen one of the tenants, who expressed his willingness to pay, at the same time intimating bis iritentidn to leave shortly,—After some farther discussion the Clerk was instructed to see the other tenant, KATE. The proposed rate was next dealt. with Mr Aostin proposed, Mr Bdgeler seconded, and it: was carried unanimously,—" That this Board, under the powers upon them" by the Bating Act, 1882, do hereby strike a rate of in tbe £ on all "rateable property in the Arowhenua Town Board District' for tb?e period ending March 31st, 1887, to be payable in one sum on the 25th October ; and that the rate book be open for inspection on and after that date at' Mr Lee's store, Wilkin Street,"Arowbenua." ■'< OJ DIVISION.OF FUNDS, ETC. A long discussion ensued with regard to the difficulty between the two Boards. i Mr Edgeler. said they should 'come to Bome decision in order to bring about •'Settlement of the; question at issue, The Chairman wished to know what pteps Mr Edgeler proposed should be taken; in order to bring, about a more irjeedy settlement than, by the course which,was now being r adopted. . They had'writtey,t6;Mf4atier asking if the Statement sent by the &oad Board had beeW&itertaineh 4 ,' and until receipt of an answer nothing could be done. Mr Bdgeler said the dapu'ation had nude a mistake in waiting upon the, full Bo'a/d. He J thought it would have been fair for two members of the Board to have met the deputation, and it was unfair for the deputation to have to conlend Irith the full Board. The Chairman explained that it bad been arranged for the deputation to meet/the 1 Gbalrraih of tbeßoad Board, but owning, to inclement: weather Mr Talbot did,,npt attend,;ConseqUentlr they had to meet the fulij Board the following day^-which-be-thought was nothing out of the'wiiy.n'lf'made: no;difference to tb,em ( if they "hSd t"o niept the full Board. If they had wished all the members of the Town could bav waited on the RoWd 1 Board as a dppuiaion. With regard'to a more ' speedy settlement, tbeyV could do nothing until they had received a letter from Mr Baker, If the.statement of the Road Board was entertained, be would ask the Governor td f appbint an arbitrator. If he received information from Mr Bak»r that the money wafc forthcoming he would meet the Road Board, and accept the £25 in Settlement. Mr Bdgeler said thby were making no progress. They had been in exist ence for some time, and they had advanced but very little. The Chairman said the best thing Mr, b'dgeler coald do was to go to Wellington and push the matter. After some further conversation the subject dropped. : : ,'.. REPAIRS. Mr Edgeler brought forward the question of fepainng a bridgp. He said some planks wanted replacing. Mr Austin asked Mr Edgeler if he intended to rush into debt, and have no funds to pay it. Mr Kdgeier said he.had.no intpntion of answering that question. . .<!'< After a few remarks by the Chairman, in which he said they could undertake Mr ■*■■> , •
no works till they were in fends, the discussion dropped. Three being no otbrr business Mr Austin proposed, Mr hrigpler seconded, and it was 'carried—" That the Board meet on Monday, Nov. 1." The Board j then adjourned.
