AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
• -A meeting of the above Board was teldi at Mr Lee’s residence on Thursday Evening b-t. Present—Messrs Lee (Chairman). Austin, Edgeler, Story, and Proudlock. ihe Clerk, Mr Dyson, was also predent. . ' ' minutes. The ipinutes of the previous meeting were read.and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was read from Mr Sperrey, Property Tax Commissioner, dated September 29th, in answer to a letter from the Board, informing them that he had forwarded a copy of the valuation roll for the; Arowhenua Town District; also that the resolution passed by the Board adopting the Rating Act, 1882, would be gazetted. KATE. The Chairman said the first business before the' Board was to determine the amount of the rate they proposed to strike. -It vould be necessary to move a resolution fixing the amount of the rate they proposed to levy, and also to decide the 1 date for s special meriting upon which they would strike the said rate. Mr Proudlock wished to know what revenue would likely be derived from the various sources. The Chairman said that the sum forthcoming from reserves would be about £2O. Mr Edgeler thought they should first strike a rate of $d in the £, in order to enable them to get on with works, and when they received the subsidy they could spend soma of that if necessary, Mr Proudlock would favor a rate of Jd in the £ if it was possible to do with it. The Chairman wished to draw the Attention of the Board to the reserve leased by Mr Hayhurst. He did not know whether they would get it, and that meant about £2O. He did not think people would grumble at a rate of |d in the £ for the first year.^ Mr'Story acquiesced in the Chairman’s contention. Mr Edgeler. proposed—“ That it is the intention of the Board to strike a rate of 4d in the £ on all rateable property in the Arowhenua Town District, at a special meeting to be held on October 10th.” ..Mr Story seconded the resolution, and it was carried unanimously. ■ It was decided to advertise the same in the Temuka Leader. BY-LAWS. ; Mr Edgeler brought forward the question of by-laws. The Chairman said it would be advisable to defer the matter. It would cost £6 or £7 to advertise the by-laws, and it would be better to wait till they were in funds. It was decided'to postpose further consideration of the subject. ■ MAK. Mr Story asked what was the intention of the Board with reference to procuring » toap.' . . ~ , The Chairman thought it would be as Well to discuss the matter. He would like to hear the Clerk’s opinion. The Clerk thought the prices of the maps exorbitant. He would advise the Board to-procure one from Mr Fussetl. as he thought they could get one at less cost, 'He suggested that if any member should be in Timaru he should make an enquiry. dt 'was reealved to leave the matter in abeyance. i IN COMMITTEE. On the motion of Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Story, the Board then went into Committee to receive the report of the deputation appointed to meet the Road Board, with a view of arriving at a settlement of the difficulty between the two Boards re division of funds, etc., and to discuss what steps should be taken in the matter. The result did net transpire. , -On.the Board coming out of Committee no other business was taken, and the Board adjourned.
