- + AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited) reports for the week ended Saturday, Oct. 2nd, 18S6, as follows : Cattle—Prime beef may be quoted nt from 22a 6d to 24a per 100-b; medium only 20i. Prices have, lately Buffered a slight decline. Tlw- supply at the Washdyke yards has not been nmarkuble for good quality or numbers. They sold u few peus at quotations. Stores were in moderate supply of various sorts, princi pally old cows and young stock, all in very low condition, so sales were somewhat difficult to effect. Gool fresh forward steers are enquired for, and are saleable at £3 10s to £5, according to sizo and condition. At the above prices they have disposed of several lines. Sheep—During the past week there baa been an increased demand for all classes, and a considerable number have changed hands. At the Waßhdyke yards the fat pens being well filled with nice quality haif and three-quarter breds, brought from 135.t0 14s 9d ; medium quality, lis to 12h. Stores—All offering find buyers. The spring in our pastures has caused improved demand, especially for hoggets and 2 and 4-tooth crossbreds.

Sheepskins—By auction and privately their offerings hate been over 3000, at the fnllowiug prices : —Factory crossbreds, 5s to 5s 4d ; do merino?, 4s; best butchers' ciossbreds, 5s to 5s 6d ; second quality, 4s to 4s 9d ; do merino, 3a 4d to 4s. Country skins, of which they had a large entry, brought from 2s to 4a 10d, according to the size and condition they were in.

Hides The market remains dull. Quotations—Best dry and clean, free from cuts, 3d to 3| I per lb ; medium weights, 2£d to 2|.i ; light and inferior, 2d to 2J-J. At the above prices Ihey have sold over 100. Tallow and Fat-All on hand cleared at the; following quotations, 7s 6d to 8a 6d per cwt. for rough.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, Oct. 1New Zealand wheat, 4s 2d per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 5d ; maize, per 56lbs, 3s 2d ; Sugar Company's No. 1 pieces, £25 per ton; pollard, llu per bushel ; potatoes, 50s per ton. Adelaide, Oct. 1. Wheat is selling at from 5s to 5s Id per bushel. Adelaide flour, town brands, £ll to £ll 15s per ton ; country brands, £l.O 12s 6d to £lO 15s. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Oct. 1. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is quoted at 358, and JKew Zealand 28s to 335. Adelaide flour, 245. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom, according to today's returns, is 1,650,000 quarters, 2C,000 less than last week. : Australian tallow remains at the following quotations :—Average quality beef, 23s ; 'mutton, 25s 6d. . The total ptock of tallow in London to-day is 15,500 casks. Oct. 2. The wool sales have closed, and quotations are easier for all merinos, except on superior combing,.which is Id lower, but equal to last closing rates. Crossbreds are firmer, and show an advance of Id on closing rates. The number of pales catalogued was 270,000, of which 5000 were Withdrawn, The fourth series open on the 23rd November, The wheat market is weak, and common sorts are 6d dearer. Australian arid New Zealand shipments are depressed.
