DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS.
At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted :-
Fat Cattle—The number forward was nota large one, consisting of 182 bead, and of these two-tbirds were good to prime and heavy weights. Prime heavy weight bullocks brought from £lO to £l3 ; medium, £7 10s to £9lss; light weights, £4 10s to £6 15s; cows, £8 10a. Fat Sheep—A very full market was penned, consisting of 3593, comprising aboot 3000 crossbreds and the remainder merinos. The quality of fully one-half of the crossbreds was prime and the remainder fair to good, while the greater poition of the merinos were good to prime. Competition was fairly brisk throughout, and for prime pens of both descriptions, an advance on last week's priceß was obtained. Best crossbred wethers.brought from 14s to 16s—several peos of very heavy weights fetching 17s 9d ; medium to good, 7s 9d to 13s 9d ; medium ewes, 12a 6d to 14s; medium to good, 8s to lis ; merinos, 10a to 12s 9d. —Mr L. Maclean sold drafts for several clieots, including Mr James Harrison (South Canterbury), at for merinoa up to 12s 6d, and crossbreds to 14s 9d. -Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 60 crossbred hoggets at 9s 6d.—Donald Reid and Co. sold for Mr Andrew Grant (Temuka), 120 balfbred wethers at 12s 9d. Fat Lambs—Fifty-one mere penned and sold at from 6s 6d to 14s. Pigs—lß7 were yarded. Stores sold from 78 to 15s; porkers, 16s to 245; baconers, 27s to 355.
Horses —Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. quote first-class draughts at from £24 to £27 ; medium (useful farm horses), from £ls to £22; light draughts and spring cart horses, from 13s to 17s ; firstclass hacks and light harness horses, from £l6 to £22 ; medium. £8 to £l2 ; inferior and light, £1 10a to £5. •
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Sept. 28. At the colonial woo! auctions to-day 13,800 bales were offered. The tone of the market was quiet. Adelaide flour is spiling at 24s per 2801bs. New Zealand wheat, from 28s to 83s. Australian beef tallow, 23s 6d per cwt ; mutton, 25s 6*l. Melbourne, Sppt.- 29. Messrs Goldsbrough and Co. have received the following report on the London wool market, dated Sept. 28th : —The market is weaker for all descriptions except crossbrpds, which are Id higher than at the opening of the present series. Scoured, geaerally, has fallen Id ; good scoured from Id to lid ; inferior greasy merino is Id lower, and good greasy merino Id lower than at the opening of the present series.
Six rum were offered for sale nt Dunedin on Thursday by the Government auctioneer, but only one was sold. Captain Coleman, of the Armed Constabulary, left Wellington for Chriatchurch yesterday afternoon to take chnrge of the annual Yeomanry Cavalry encampment at Ohristchureh.
