SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
GEEALDINS. The usual monthly meeting of thin Committee was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening last, Present —Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), J. Cunningham, C. E. W. Shiers, and G.Ward. Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows ; From the Board of Education, acknowledging the receipt of the Committee's letter, and stating the Board would contribute one-half of the amount ' required for the necessary repairs up to £2o.—lt was decided to accept the Board's offer. From the same, notifying the Committee that Mr G. B. Turnbull bad been permanently appointed as Head " Master to the Geraldine School. From th • same re the old windows, aid asking <l>« Committee to obtain as fair a value for the same as possible.— It was decided that the visitors appointed for the ensuing month should • lee the windows and place a value on them with a view to their sales -The Master's report was rear!, and ' showed the number on the roll to be: Boys 127, girls 11«, total 243, with «n average attendance of 200. Also asking the Committee to give directions *« to granting holidays for the race days. ▲lter some discussion it was decided to close the school for the whole of Friday. * The Chairman and Mr Shiers, visitors for tbe month, reported having visited tbe School during the month and finding everything in working order. They advised tbe renovating of the house inside and the placing of some shingle on the back yard, the sowing of some grass seed on the playground as it-was. very muddy, and the erection of a small room at the end of the verandah for tbe accommodation of the hats and eloakf. Messrs Sberralt and Cunningham were appointed visitors for the ensuing mouth and were authorised to see to carrying cut of the necessary repairs. The attention of the Committee .'" was directed to the state of the school .: pump which was shown to be out of - repair, and not available for use. The Chairman stated that the sum of £1 5s 3d, the balance of the pruse fond, which bad been left • in the hands of Mr W. S. Maslin by Mr A. Sherratt on the latter's departure for England, had been banded over to him and disbursed for drawing material.
Accounts to the amount of £7 Is 5d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned till the 27th prox.
WINCHESTER.
The monthly meeting of the Winchester School Committee was held on Sept. 28, Messrs B. Smith (Chairman), Klee, Bishop, and 6. Smith being present. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the master's report was dealt with. A long discussion' ensued on the low average attendance during the last quarter, and it was decided to write to two parents requesting them to send their children to school more regularly. It was pointed ont should the attendance g«-t much lower the School might loose Us mistress. It was decided to close the School on the last day of the Geraldine Races. The visitors reported that the School ras working satisfactorily, and that the window blinds required attention. This the Chairman was authorised to attend to. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board pointing out that the Board's Architect bad not yet been to see the School as promised, Accounts to the amount of £2 18s 6d having been passed for payment, and Messrs G. Smith and Bishop appointed visitors, the meeting terminated.
