AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited) reports for the week ended Saturday, Sept, 18lh, 1886, as follows :
Business during the past week or ten days has been limited ; no auction sales of any note in stock have taken place. Cattle—At the Wushdyke yards no beef was yarded. This is to be regretted, as some of the butchers were completely out and would have been glad to fill their requirements. We quote prime quality 235, and medium 2ds per lOOibs. Store* —Nothing of any importance baa taken place. There is a demand for young steers and heifers, also two and three* year-old steers. As spring advances this class of stock will sell well. ~, ,
Sheep— Fat: No alteration ip values and supply have taken place. Good crossbred wethers are bringing at the Washdyke yards from 12s to 14s per head ; private sales have been made up to 16s to 16s. Stores: We note the demand for crossbreds considerably better, especially hoggets and two and four-tooths. Sheepskins—At our usual fortnightly sale, held on Wednesday last, the fine weather we have experienced during the past week or so has enabled fellmongers to work down their accumulated stocks. This, with! the continued good reports of the wool market, caused them to muster in full force and bid freely for every lot submitted. We catalogued about 2000, with several lines of station skins ; competition all through was keen, and good prices were obtained. Best butchers’ crossbreds, 4s 6d to 4s lid; second quality, 3s 6d to 4s 3d ; butchers’ merinos brought from 2s lOd to Ss 2d; factory merinos, 3s 10d ; country lines from Is 6d to 3s lOd, according to size and quality. Hides—The market is somewhat weaker and prices Lave receded. Quotations are as - follow 60;b, to 4d for best quality ; 3d to 3£d tor mediuin2jd to 2fd par lb others. At the above price we put through a considerable number.
