THE ALLEGED CASE OF WIFE POISONING.
At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Tiraaru, on Tuesday last, the charge against Thomas Hall and Margaret Graham Houston cif the attempted murder of Mrs Catharine Hall was again called on at 1 o'clock. Mr Berwick, R.M., and Messrs H. J. LeCren, J.P,'B, were on the Bench. After some argument the case was adjourned till 2 o'clock, at which hour, Mr White, who represented the prosecution, applied for a further remand for a week, stating that Dr Maclntyre had informed him that Mrs Hall was not as yet in a fit state to appear in Court to give evidence. If the Court thought it was necessary, he would place Dr Maclntyre in the witness box to giro evidence to that effect. If Mrs Hall was not well enough to give evidence next Monday he should not apply for an adjournment. The adjournment was strongly opposed by Mr C. T. H. i'erry, who represented fiUll, and Mr Hay, who appeared for Miss Houston. Mr Perry produced medical certificates from Drs Loyegrove and Reid to the effect that Mrs Hall was strong enough to appear, and said he was prepared to put them in the witness box to substantiate their certificates. Mr H«y pointed out the great injustice that would be done to his client—against whom he conteuded no case had been made out—by keeping ber a prisoner for another week. He wished all the doctors to be placed in the box and their evidence taken, and then the Court could decide as to what was best to be done. Mr Beswick said he should remand the prisoners to Monday next at 2 p.m.—Hall was brought down from Christchurch by the express train and was taken back thither the same afternoon by the north express. The Court and its precincts and the railway station were thronged with spectators. Both prisoners were apparently in good health.
