AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Arowbenua Town Bp;ard took place last Tuesday evening.Present• Messrs Lee (Chairman), Proudlock, Story, Edgeler, and Austin. minutes. , The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The Chairman laid on the tab'e the ]e’ter he bad written to the Commissioner of Crown Lands in reference to the deferred-payment sections sold. Mr Protidlock said they advertised for a person to lake the position of Clerk and Overseer, and he held it would not be fight to divide the offices now. Altogether, the Chairman said, they Had found J ■ there Were reserves in the township to uirthe extent "of; 23a 3r 34p, or nearly 24 acres, but he was of opinion there would,be Eomerdifficully in letting some they ijvbre so cut op# The reserves were of‘alLiizes, from a acre upwards. The best were, in High street, next the Park. They were , ..generally,in, acra.blocks, and altogether r there were 12 acres between High and "• Denmark streets. He thought they could let 18 or 20 acres, but the remainder were so small and broken up that he did not think people would think it worth while to fence them. Mr Edgeler pdinted out that persons who owned land adjoining them might take them up, i. >' Mr !3ipry asked whether the reserves would ba let, to the, first applicants by ~ lot or ti nder. The Chairman said it would be advisable to empower the Clerk to write to the Commissioner of" Taxes for authority to strike a rate. He coaid also prepare a ratepayers’ roll at once. - Proposed by Mr Edgeler, seconded by Mr Proudlock, and canied unanimously—“ That the Clerk be requested to take the steps necessary to authorise . - the Board to strike a rate,” FINANCIAL. The Chairman said no answer had been- received from the Coramis sioner of Crown Lands re the amount owing to the Town Board for, deferred payment land sold. He. did not think there bad been time. Till ■ - they got the reply and settled with the Hoad Board he not think it would be wise to go to any expense. MISCELLANEOUS. On the motion of Mr Austin, it was tesolved that the Clerk apply to the Tetnuka and Geraldine Town Boards ' for copies of their by-laws.—The Chairman said the matter bad been spoken of at last meeting, lie did not think they could get on witboit by-laws of some kind. The Chairman was authorised to get the Clerk to do anything be might find
