AN EXPLANATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— 'Business having taken me to the district, and as I was compelled to stay there a day or two, I thought I would try and find out for myself what all the correspondence is -about that comes from that neighborhood, and I have got my information from the best authority. I hand it over to you to make what use you like out of it. In the first place, the Rongitata School Committee granted the use of the schoolroom to certain of their mem befs for the purpose of holding a concert and dance, on condition that the proceeds should ; go ,to the school fund. That is’ tliG wording of the minutes of the ScliOql Committee, of the advertisements in the newspapers, and also of .the admission tickets. The entrance lee was. half-a-crown, and there were about 150 present, The Chairman of the Committee cannot obtain a statement of accounts, and has only received £1 of the proceeds of the concert, although he has demanded it. I can, however,' get no. information of where the money has gone to. Some say it was taken to,purchase a harmonium for the use of the Presbyterians, others that it was taken to pay the mmistei’s stipend, but I had to leave the district before the inhabitants had discovered where it had gone.—l am, etc., . Visitor.
