MERIVALE V. TEMUKA. The return match between the above clubs was played on Saturday at Ashburton. The Temuka team wont up the first train from tbe South, and were met by the Merivale Club, who had arrived by the express. The Temuka team only mustered twelve-, and Menva'e had one man short. Both teams obtained substitutes in Ashburtoo, and thegiime was started at two o'clock, and was played in two spells of forty minutes each. The Temuka Captain having won the toss he decided to play with the wind. Merivale kicked off, and the ball was at once taken into tbe Temuka quarters, but it was gradually worked down to the centre of the ground. For Merivale Crow played excellently as half-back, ann was ably seconded by Mountfort and Richards, the latter doing good work in always slopping' Moore. Pope (quarterbuck), Lecbner, Dewsbury,Hiddlestone, and Evans also played well. The match was played on the Sports Company's ground, which was in excellent order.

The following have been chosen to represent Canterbury in the football match with Otago : Full-back, A. 0. Bennett ; three-quarter-backs, E. J. Francis and H. Wilson ; half-backs, G. H, Helinore and 0. Harden; forwards, W. Bean, H. J. Beawick, W. Dowe, E. Fooks, J. Tnrnbull, J. Horner, W. Sutherland, 0, Torlesse, E. B. Milton, J. Fuller (emergency). The third three-qaarter-back was to be chosen on Monday. Oh Saturday afternoon a team of probables beat a team of improbables hy three goals and two tries to two tries. C. H. Hamilton, the well-knowu amateur runner, broke the smaail bone of his right leg in the game.
