Sydney, Aug. 5. Arrived, this morning—Hauroto, s.s., from Wellington. Sailed, this afternoon—Tarawera, 8.R., for Auckland, In the Legislative Assembly, the hostile motion tabled by Sir Henry -Parkee relative to the tariff proposals of | the Government dame up for discussion
on the third reading of the Customs Bill. After an animated debate, the motion was rejected by 42 to 21. The Seamens’ Union are opposing the demand of the shipowners for a reduction of wages. Melbourne, Aug. 5. The strikers in the employ of the Robinsons having refused to submit their dispute to arbitration, 46 local iron wasters have resolved upon a lockout. The Government Itesident in Derby reports under date July 26 :—“ All at Kimberley are getting gold. Experi enced miners consider the prospects favorable. Much gold is understood to be in the diggers’ hands.” Adelaide, Aug. 5. Arrived, this morning—Liguria, 5,?., with the English mails to July 2nd.,
