THE LATE CASE OF ELLERY V. COFFEY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln your report in Thursday’s issue of the proceedings at the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Geraldine on Monday last, I see that I am credited with the authorship of an agreement between the parties in the suit, Ellery v. Coffey. In justice to myself I beg you will allow me space in your valuable piper to make a brief explanation, and give the facts of the case as regards myself. Coffey cams to me and asked ms to draw up an agreement between - himself and Ellery. 1 declined, knowing the risk an unprofessional person russ of being incorrect in matters of this kind. Coffey said the affair was not particular, and gave me a tough draft of an agreement, written in pendii. To satisfy him, I merely wrote this out, in order that it might be the more easily read. This is all I had to do with the agreement, which from its unlegal aspect and obscurity seams to have puzzled the learned gentlemen of the Bench and Bar, for I find from your report a lengthy technical discussion took place upon it, Apologising for troubling you, I nrn, etc,, E. Haedoastib. Christchurch, Aug. 2ud.
