CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 16th July ; The week’s transactions in grain have been limited. Millers are fairly stocked, and are now more independent, and the absence of shipping orders is in favor of local buyers. Holders are, however, firm in their demands, maintaining that prices must advance, as the orders for flour are known to be heavy. Tuscan is in bpst demand at 4s Id to '4s 2d, Pearl at 4s to 4s 2d,and Hunter’s at 3s lOd to 4s ; second quality is offering in small parcels at Id to 2d less ; chicken wheat has a good demand at 3s 7d to 8s Bd. Oats have been offering more freely, and prices last quoted have been barely maintained. Prime milling are held jq limited quantities at 2s fid ; short stout fepd pre quiet at 2s 4d to 2s 4|d j long sorts are dull at 2s 2d to 2s 3d, Barley—Malting is nominal at 3* to 3s 3d ; second quality is almost unsaleable; feeding kinds have a fair enquiry in the country districts at 2s to 2s sd. J|eans and feed peas are occasionally asked for, and are worth 3s Id to 3s 4d ; Prussian blues, true to name, are scarce,' and for seed purposes are worth 4s 3/1 tft 4s fid. Ryegrass has still a strong enquiry for machine-dressed at 5s 31; farmers’ parcel* at from 3s 9d to 4s fid. Cocksfoot has a ready sale at 4|d to 4jd for bright heavy seed ; light and foggy at 3Jto 3^d, Potatoes are offering freely at 5,2 s 6d to §ss at country stations. Dairy Produce—Sellers are more disposed to meet buyers’ views, and business,
is being done at lOd to lid for prime butter. Cheese remains at 6d to 6|d, The above prices (potatoes excepted) are for delivery f.o.b, Lyttelton. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—Business throughout the psst week has bequ quiet; several lines of really prime quality have been offered, but buyer* are willing to operate only at a rednetion on late rates. Growers, are, however, firm, and are not disposed to accept the prices offered, preferring to hold a little longer. Medium quality is wanted, and fetches well up to last week’s values. Fowl wheat is exceedingly scarce, and finds a ready sale. Velvet and Tuscan 4s 5d to 4s 7d ; extra fine, 4s 8d ; medium milling, 4s 2d to 4s 4d ; and fowl feed, 3s to 4s. Oats—The demand hae slackened considerably, and prices are decidedly easier, but so far holders are firm and wait a brisker market, A fair amount of business is done in clean lines fit for seed. Milling (with very dull sale), 2s 4d to 2s 5d ; medium bright feed, 2s 3d to 2s 3£d ; inferior feed, 2s to 2s Id ; discolored and musty, Is KM to Is lid. Barley—Several orders have been received for feeding and milling quality, but prices offered are low. Quotations, 2s 3d to 3s. Potatoes—Derwents, 82s 6d to 85b ; medium do, 75s to 80s; and some occasional inquiry for seed kidneys at 70s to 90s per ton, sacks weighed in. Grass Seed—lnquiries have been made for ryegrass, but so far no transactions have taken place. Quotations: Ryegrass, farmers’ lots, at 4s 6d to 4s 9d ; machine dressed, 5a 3d to 5s 6d. Cocksfoot is offering at 4£d to 4£d per lb. Butter—Salt is quiet at 9d to 9|d per lb ; fresh, Is to la Id. Eggs ate wanted at Is 8d to Is 9d. Turnips are in over supply at 21s to 22s 6d, Carrots—4os per ton. Sheepskins—At Monday’s sale green : crossbreds brought 3s 2d to 4s 6d ; do merinos, Is 7d tc 3a 4d ; lambskins, 2s 7d to 3s 2d ; dry country skins, Is 3d to 4s 3d ; do merinos, Is to 4s 9d ; pelts, 2d to 10d. Hides are without change in values, all coming forward finding buyern at late rates, which range from 2£d to 4d per lb for heavy weights free from cuts and offal. Tallow—Prime is worth 19s to 20s ; medium, 16s 6d to 18s ; inferior, 13s 6d to 15s ; rough fat, 6s to 12a per cnt. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, July 15. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports on the local market* as follows : Shipping wheat, 5s Id to 5s 2d per bushel; malting barley, 3s 9d to 4s 3d. Oats — New Zealand feed sorts, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; milling descriptions, 3s to 3s 7d ; New Zealand under bond, 2s 6d to 2s 8d ; Sydney oats, steady, 2s 6d to 2s 9d per bushel. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, July 13. Wool—A catalogue of 14,000 bales was submitted at to day’s auction. The demand continues firm and active. July 14. At to day’s wool sales a catalogue comprising 9400 bales was submitted. The various lots met with a firm and active demand. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable from London, dated the 13th instant;— Wool—Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active, Coarse washed qrossbred has advanced per lb, and coarse greasy crossbred nearly Id per lb since close of last sales. The total quantity catalogued to date is 31.C,0C0 bales, and the total quantity withdrawn 7000 bales. Wheat Conflicting reports of American crops are received. The market has an upward tendency. Cocksfoot —New Zealand, f.o.q. of the season, is worth 49a per cwt. for new, and 25s for old seed. Quotations are nominal. There is no trade demand.
