THE HOME ELECTIONS.
London, July 11. The result of the elections shows that in England 94 Gladstonites, one Parnellito, 265 Conservatives, and 44 Unionists have been elected ; in Scotland, 38 Gladstonites, eight Conservatives, and 13 Unionists ; in Wales, 17 Gladstonites, four Conservatives, and three Unionists ; and in Ireland, 12 Conservatives, and two Unionists gained seats. Trevelyan was defeated by 30 votes, Arch by 20, and T. Healey by 138. Mr Gladstone, in reviewing the’ elections, stated that Wales and Scotland had seen their duty towards Ireland quickly, but England had yet to learn hers slowly and painfully. July 12. The Times advocates the formation of a Hortington-Halisbury Ministry. Ihe following is the estimate of the final result of the general election : Conservatives, 327 ; Unionists, 77 ; Gladstonites, 187 ; Paruellites, 87. July 13. The latest election returns show : Conservatives, 292 ; Unionists, 60 ; Gladstonites, 155 ; Parnellites, 75. The formation of a coalition Ministry by the Marquis of Salisbury and the Marquis of Hartington has been mooted as the outcome of the political crisis.
