AUCTIONEERS’REPORT. TIMARU. Mr D. Maclean (for Messrs James A. Grade and Co.) reports for the period ending Saturday as follows Horses—On Saturday at the Timsm Horse Bazaar our entry was smaller titan usual, only 27 head of all kinds having come forward, amongst them some remarkably good draughts, for which there was a brisk demand and all the best aorta changed hands at fully lait week’s vslaes. We disposed of 13 head at for medium to good draughts at from £lßloa to 136 10s ; aged and inferior, £7 to £l2 ; hacks, medium, £8 10s to £10; aged, light, and inferior, £2 to £6 10s. Cattle—At the Washdyks on the Ist inst. there was a small entry of fat cattle, for which there was a good demand. Wo sold 5 head at £5 5s per bead. Cowe m milk and at calving were in request and wold at from £4 10« to £6.

At Pleasant Poiut on Monday last wb sold 8 steers at 4.75, 4 steers at £4, 5 cows nt from £2 7a 6d to £212«6d. Wa sold privately JBO head 2. and 3-year-old store steers and heifers.

Sheep—At the Washdyko on the Ist inst, there was an average entry of fat and store sheep, and at Pleasant Point on At the l itter place there was an improved demand for both fat and s ares, and nearly every.line changed hands. We sold 222 ewes.hnd wethers at 6a 3d ; GO fat ewes, »VBs 9d ; ,100 merino wether*, at 3 t 4d ; and privately 100 fat sheep at equal to l|d per lb.

Skins—Our usual fortnightly sale was held on Wednesday last, when we cataloged over 1000 skins. Thera was a largo attendance of buyers, and prices realised were considerably in advance of former rates, best crossbreds bringing from 3s to 3s 4d.

Land—We have to report the sale during the week, on account of the N.Z. and A, Land Company of 700 acres, situated in Totara Valley, to Mr John Paterson, who has disposed of his former holding of 828 acres to Mr Donald Mcßeath, of Greymoutb, for whom we negotiated the purchase, LAND SALE. The National Mertgage nnd Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, report having seld Mr R. B. Thomson’s Glentsnner Station, Mackenzie Country, consisting of 1825 acres of freehold, and 22,000 acres of leasehold, and 12,500 sheep, to Mr Stuart G. Brown, of Dunedin, at a satisfactory price. TIMARU PRODUCE MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operatira Association, Limited, report for the week ended 9th inst. as follows : There is not much business doing in milling wheat. The Sydney market has collapsed, and the tendency on the part of local millers and merchants is to work off their accumulated stocks. Owners, however, appear disinclined to accept reduced rates, and consequently few transactions have taken place. Oats, as we anticipated, have bean in active demand, and any lines offering are readily taken at our quotations. Feed barley is meeting with some enquiry at low rates. Potatoes have seen some activity, without, however, any alteration .in values. Salt butter inis not been enquired for, nnd has further receded in value. The following are our quotations : Wheat—Prime Tuscan and velvet, 4s 2£d to 4s 3|d ; red chaff, 4s to*4« Id ; good whole fowl wheat (very scarce), 3s 5d ; broken, 2s 9d to 3s. Oats—Bright heavy short, 2s 3jd to 2a fair average, 2s to 2s l^d; inferior, Is 9d to 2s. Barley— Ma'ting (nominal), 2s Gd to 2s 9d ; feed, 2h Id to 2s 4d. Potatoes—Prime Derwents, 65s per ton, sacks included. Butter—Salt, to 9d, kegs extra. The above grain quotat ons are ex store or in trucks, Timaru. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Btdnet, July 9. New Zealand wheat, 4s 2d per bushel; New Zealand oats, 2s 5d per bushel j maize, per 56lbs, 3s 3d ; Sugar Company’s No. 1 pieces, £25 per ton. Adelaide, July 10. Shipping wheat is steady at4s!od to 5a per bushel, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, July 8. At to-day’s waol sales the catalogue submitted comprised 14,900 bales. Prices were firmly maintained throughout. Since the commencement of the present series 269,109 bales have been catalogued, of which 6400 bare been withdrawn. July 9. New Zealand frozen meat is quoted at 5d to s£d per lb at Smitbfield. Australian tallow of fair average quality has advanced 6d perewt., Beef tallow is quoted at 24s 6d, and mutton at 26e 6d per cwt. June 10. The wheat market is unchanged. The weather is fine. Two New Zealand off-coast cargoes have been sold at 29a 3d and 29s 6d, respectively. The wool market keeps its firmness, and prices are fully maintained. The market is stronger. Two hundred and ninety-seven thousand ; bales have baen withdrawn, most of which has since been placed privately. The arrivals for ibe next series number over 200,000 bales. • 3
