London, July 8. Mr Gladstone denies the statement made to the effect that ha had received suggestions from the Irish Americans regarding bis Home Rule proposal*. The Marquis of Hartington has expressed bis opinion that it is necesiary to allow Ireland a more extensive scheme of local government than England. Up to,tha present 714,000 ayes end 776,000 noes have been recorded for and against Mr Gladstone in constitnsneis, which at the general election in November last bad recorded him a majority of 73,000 votes. July 9. The elections in the English Boroughs are now completed. The list shows that 144 Conservatives, 22 Unionists, and 60 GUdstonites have been returned, of which 49 Conservatives, 2 Unionists,

and 11 Gladstones have been elected for the Metropolitan constituencies, The completed returns of the elections concluded to day show;—-Conservatives, 263; Unionists, 54; Gladstones, 133; Parnellites, 71, July 10. The latest election returns gives ihe state of parties as follows Conservatives, 290 ; Unionists, 62 ; Gladstones, 149; Parnellites, 72. The Marquis of Burlington has been re-electsd for Rosendale, Lancashire. G. F. Trevelyan, who in March last resigned the Secretaryship of Scotland in Mr Gladstone’s Government, has been defeated for H*wick by a Gladstonite candidate, Joseph Arch, a labor candidate, and Timothy Healey, a Nationalist, have been defeated for North-west|Norfolk and Londonderry.
