Fully half were prime apd heavy cattle, the feature of the sale being a draft of magnificent bullocks ex Go-Ahead from Wanganui. There was brisk bidding for ail offered. Last week’s prices were well dipheld, and in some instances an advance
of 2s 61 per 1001 b waa given. Bullocks bolil at £5 7a 6d to £12103 ; cows, £4 10a t» £9 2s 6d.—L. Maclean sold for Mr Andrew Grant (Tetnuka), 6 bullocks from £6 to £5 10s. Wright Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr R. A. Barker (Orari), 7 prune Devon steers at from £7 sfl to £8 15s. Fat Calves—Only 7 in, and sold at 21s to 23s each. Fat Sheep —There was only a moderate supply forward, consisting of 160 merinos of fair quality and 1707 crossbreds. Bidding on the whole was fairly active, last week’s rates being well maintained. Crossbred wethers sold at 10s to 16s; crossbred ewes, 6s 6d to 14s 9d ; merinos 3s 9d to 9s 9d.—Donald Reid and Co. sold for Mr William Quinn (Makikihi), 63 halfbreds at 12s 9d.—L. Maclean sold for Mr W. Quinn (Makikihi), 64 halfbreds from 10a 9d to lls 6d ; for Mr M. Studholrae (Waimate Estate), 96 crossbred ewes at 9s 6d. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. sold for Mr R. A. Barker (Oruri), 50 Romney ewes at 12* 6d j for Mr W. Quinn (Makikihi), 64 crossbreds at from lls 3d to 12a 9d ; for Mr Walter Hartnell (Rakaia), 180 quarterbred ewea and wethers at 9s ; for &.M. and A. Company, Limited (Timaru), 64 crossbred ewes and wethers at from lls 9d‘to 12s 9d. Fat Lambs—Only 60 in ; these were sold at 6s to 6s 6d. Pigs—27s came to hand. Baconers sold at 26s to 45s ; a few heavy sows at 47s 6d to 58s ; porkers, 15s to 255; stores, lostol4s.—L Maclean sold for Mr M. Studholme (Waimate Estate), 30 baconers from 36s to 52s ; for Mr James M’Donald (Washdyke), 60 baconers from 32s to 435. Horses—Wright, Stephenson, and Co. quote first-class draughts at from £23 to £2B ; medium, £ls to £2O ; inferior and aged, £8 to £l3 ; first-class hacks and light harness horses, £l6 to £2l ; medium, £8 to £l4 ; inferior, £2 to £4. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, July 6. New Zealand wheat (off coast cargoes) is selling at 295. Wool —At to-day’s auction 14,700 bales were offered, and prices firmly maintained. L* m v The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable from London, dated the 6th instant: — . Wool —Competition is inccaasing, and quotations* are, oh an. average, ,$d to Id per lb better than at the opening of the present series of sales. . The market is, however, unchanged for .New Zealand medium.and inferior greasy, fine washed crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred, and merino lambs wool. The total catalogued to date is 227,000 bales. Wheat—Market depressed. Growing crops are backward,* but prospects are improving. Victorian wheat is worth 355, New Zealand average 31s, and New Zealand long-berried 32a 6d per 4961b*.
