THE IMPERIAL ELECTIONS.
London, July 1.
Algernon Swinburn, the poet, has written a political poem bearing on tli* Irish question, in which occur the following significant words :—“ The man of words embraces the man of blood.” The statement previously telegraphed that 265 member* had been elected without opposition is erroneous. Candidates to that number of seats are unopposed, and they represent party divisions, namely, 55 Gladstonites, 46 Unionists, 96 Conservatives, 68 Parnollites. The actual returns of those elected without opposition show 15 Conservatives, 8 Unionist*, 8 Gladstones.

The announcement that Mr Davitt intended to oppose the return of the Marquis of Hartington for the Rnsendale division of Lancashire is stated to be erroneous.
jjuly, 3. Mr Bright, speaking st Birmingham, said that Mr Gladstone lost his hod in connection with the Irish affairs. He also contended that if an Irish Parliament at Dublin had been' agreed to, the result would have been the rapid breaking up of the l-.mpiWv Lord Rosebery, in his speech,!intimated that ia bis opinion the next; mov* in federation must emanate from the colonies, which are now awnre that it i« the desire of the supreme party in England, to maintain a closa relationship with them. The election returns now show 49 Conservative*, 10 Unionist*, 13 Glsdstomtes, and 8 ParneUite* have beep elect'd. Among those (returned unopposed are Mr GUditone, Sir Michael Hicks Beach, Sir Randolph Churchill, Mr Herbert Gladstone, Mr Chamberlain, Mr John Bright, and Sir Robert Peel. .
