AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT.

Mr D. Maclean (for Messrs James A. Grade and Co.) reports for the period ending Saturday as follows ;

Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bdztar to-day our entry of 34 head comprised some remarkably good draught mares and geldings. A fair proportion of to-day’s entry changed hands at for best draughts £2l to £3O ; medium, £l4 10s to £lB ; inferior, £7 to £lO 10s ; hacks, from £8 lo £l2 10s for medium, and £3 10s to £6 tor light and weedy. Cattle—We sold privately 9 head fat steers and heifers. No transactions in •tores.

Sheep—There have been a few enquiries for hoggets during the week, owing, doubtless, to the recent improvement in the price of wool in the Home market, but the scarcity of feed in this district prevents much business being done, notwithstanding the low prices ruling for sheep. Skins-r-At our usual forolgbtly sale on Wednesday there was a large attendance of buyers, and prices realised were a decided Improvement on former rates. Butchers’ crossbred skins from 2s 6d to 2s 91 ; medium, Is Id to 2s Id ; pelts, 4d to 9d.

Clearing Sale at Geraldine--At Geraldine on Thursday we held a clearing sale of stock and furniture, on account of Mr Tlios. Farrell, at the Crown Hotel. Prices satisfactory.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Sydney, June 25.

New Zealand wheat is 3d lower, nod is now 4s per bushel. New Zealand oats are quoted at 2s 8d per bushel, an advance of 2d during the week. Maize is quoted at 3s 3d, a decline of 2d per 56ibs ; pollard, 4d per bushel lower, Is 4<l, Potatoes have fallen considerably" in value, 70s per ton being now quoted as against 85s last week. Sugar is unchanged.

Adelaide, June 35.

Shipping wheat is quiet at 5s per bushel. Adelaide town flour is quoted at £ll per ton ; country brands, £lO 10a.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

Loudon, June 24,

At to-day’s wool sales the catalogue submitted comprised 14,300 bales. Prices continued to be firmly maintained, Since the opening of the present series 105,800 bales have been catalogued, of which number 3000 bales been withdrawn from sale.

Juno 25.

Colonial breadstuffs are unaltered, Australian tallow has fallen fid per cwt, Beef tallow of fair average quality is quoted at 25a per cwt 5 mutton do, 275. New Zealand frozan mutton is slightly lower, to-day’a prices ruling 54d to 64d per lb, June 26.

The number of. bales of wool catalogued for the present series is 132,000, of which number 3000 were withdrawn. Most of the excitement has subsided, and prices are mofe regular. The Australian merino softs have an established advance of 25 per cent.; the Cape of Good Hope, 20 per cent. Fine crossbreds hare improved 10 per cent,; inferior sorts, unimproved. Prance is the largest operator. The demand in Germany is increasing. The Home purchasers are mainly confined to coarse crossbreds. America is virtually out of the market, Largo catalogues are expected for the series next week at the auction sales, At Berlin chiefly Cape shipments were tffered, and prices reached fqlly Loudon rates. The wheat market is lifeless, anJ the tendency ot buyers is in favor of good samples. The Australian shipments ex warehouse are quoted at 35“. Less is offered for some recent arrivals.
