ASHBURTON MARKETS,

Mr E. G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) reports on the Ashburton stock sales on Tuesday as follows : At the Tinwald Saleyards to-day 2000 sheep mostly young crossbreds, and small entries ot cattle and pigs were yarded. Sheep—Store : The market showed more animation, and late rates were firmly upheld. Prices ruled as follows : —Ewes, 5s to 5s 5d ; forward 4-tooth crossbred wethers, 8s 6d ; 2-tooth do, 5s lid to 6s 8d ; 2-toolh mixed halfbreds, Gs 3d ; fat crossbred ewes, 6s lid ; medium to good crossbred lambs, 2s 6d, 3s 9d to 4s 3d ; culls do, Is 6d. Pigs were dull of sale and values unaltered.

Cattle—Few cattle were to hand and sales difficult to effect. Fat cows, £4 to £5 a piece.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Melbourne, Jane 22. The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports on the local markets as I 'follows:— Shipping wheat is very flat at*ss Id to 5s 3d. Malting barley is quiet at 3s 9d to 4s 3d. New Zealand oats —Feed sorts are very strong at 3a to 3a 4d ; milling descriptions are firm at 3s 4d to 4s 6d ; New Zealand oats under bond are quoted at 2s 5d to 2s 8d per bushel.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

London, Juno 20,

Wheat—The wheat market is unimproved. One cargo has been sold at Hamburg at 35s 6d. Wool Market—Up to date 51,000 tales hare been catalogued, and 800 hales have been withdrawn. The attendance to-day was large, and competition spirited. Opening rates were maintained, the advance .of prices bringing the Australian wool up to the level of the prices obtained a year ago. Cape quality is still below tbo average. Ihe Homo trade is operating more freely. June 21.

At the wool sales to-day 12,800 bales were catalogued. Prices were firmly maintained.
