ASHBURTON MARKETS.
Mr E. G. Staveley (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Ageucy Company) reports on the Ashburton stock sales on Tuesday as follows : At the Ashburton County Saleyards about 4000 sheep, chiefly ssores, and moderate entries of cattle and pigs were yarded. The Bale was quiet, with an average attendance of buyers, but the inclement weather told agaicßt the appearance of the stock. Sheep—Fat mixed crossbrede, 5s 9d to 7s 4d ; 2-tooth crossbrede, 5s 6d to 6s 2d ; aged merino ewes, 8d to Is 6d ; fairly good dc, 2s 7d. Cattle—There wai little demand for cattle. Fat cows, £5 2b 6d ; forward steers, £4 ss. At the Chertsey yards on Wednesday there were 2500 theep and fair entriea of olher stock.
Sheep—We Bold fat wethers at 9s Gd ; good crossbred lambs, 3s 9d ; forward 2-tooth crossbreds, 5s 2d ; fat merino wethers, 5* 6d. The sale passed off satisfactorily the sheep eliciting fair competition.
