A young man named Thomas Scott met with a fatal accident whilst rabbit poisoning at A. P, Seymour’s Tynesfield station, Marlborough, on Friday. A big boulder falling from the side of the hill struck him and he died from his injuries directly afterwards. Jonathan Bamford, a farmer, residing by himself at West Melton, near Christchurch, was found dead in his house last Thursday night. He had been unwell for a considerable time. The schooner Orpheus has been laid oh at Auckland for Port Derby, Kimberley, goldfields. She takes as cargo a number of ready-made houses constructed by the Auckland Timber Company. The “ great unpaid ” at Auckland, are on strike. Every Justice asked on Saturday to sit for the Justice absent whose turn it was on the rota to do so refused, and, after waiting an hour, a case had to be adjourned. One of the solicitors stated that through the turn things had taken the Minister of Justice should be communicated with at once. A foreigner named George Millar, with several aliases, believed to be a New Caledonian convict, was committed for trial at Christchurch on Saturday for breaking into a house at Spreydon and stealing jewellery therefiom He is now undergoing sentence for several charges of larceny. The Mutual Agency Company (Dunedin), has gone into liquidation.
