♦ ASHBURTON MARKETS. Mr E. G. Stavely, for the New Zealand J.c.iin and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports on the Asl>l>urt>n stock sales on Tuesday as follows; ' Only some 600 sheep and a few pig b and cattle yarded at the Ashburton County Saleyards to-day. The uttrtuianco was small, and little interest taken in the sale. Fat crossbreds realised 6s 6d ; aged merino ewes, Is ; forward mixed two-tooth crossbreds, 6s 9d. Transactions in cattle and pigs quite nominal, Yalues unchanged. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne, May 18, The Melbourne Manager of the. National Mortgnge and Agency Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports on the local markets as follows: Shipping wheat is in Btrong demand at 4s 7d per bushel ; malting barley is slow of sale at 3s 9d to is 3d ; New Zealand oats —Feed sorts, prices are firmly maintained at 8s to 3s 2d ; milling is in good demand at 3s 2d to 3s 3d ; under bond, 2s 3d to 2s 6d.
