TIMARU.

Mr D. Maclean (fo r Messrs James A. Gracio and Co.) reports for the week ending Saturday as follows ; jj orse *_At the Timarn Horse Bazuir to-day their entry comprised 62 head of all classes. Good sound and young saddle and harness horses are in fair demand, old and weedy being quite unsaleable. They disposed of 26 head to-day at—For medium to good draughts, £ls to £29 ; unbroken colts and fillies, £3 to £9 10s ; hacks, from £2 to £lO 10s. Cattle —At Washdyke Yards on Thursday the entry of prime beef was very small, and, in consequence, a few pens of medium quality met with good competition, prices realised being equal to 20s per lOOlbs far prime and 18s for rnedium 0 ' There was a considerable demand tor well 1 forward steers and calving cows and heifers. They bare an enquiry for a line of the former. They sold 5 steers at £6 ss, 4 heifers at £3 ss, 16 head at £2 7s, 5 yearlings at 355, and cows at from 30s to £3 10a. Sheep—At Washdyke the entry of all descriptions was small, mutton being represented by two small pens only, which we sold at 6s Id. They also disposed of 200 crossbred hoggets at 4* ICd and 74 merino ewes at Is 7 b TIMARU PRODUCE MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’Co-operative Association, Limited, report for the tpeek ended 7th inst. as follows: No change of importance can bo noted in the grain market, and values all round remain much the same as last week. In wheat, local millers are still well supplied, and comparatively little is being placed tor export. Oafs have seen some activity, the demand being chiefly for short bright feed, for which top rates are given. During the week we have placed one or two lines at quotations. In barley, there is nothing doing, and quotations are nomina l . Entries are coming forward for prime Derwent potatoes, but business in these is restricted, owing to the late wet weather having delayed deliveries. Butter —Advices from Sydney are not encouraging, and the export demand is somewhat easier. As, however, the weather becomes colder, prices should again recover. Our quotations are— Wheat Prime Tuscan, 3s 41 to velvet, 3s 3£d to 3s 4d ; red chaff, 3* 2£d to 3s 3d ; fowl wheat, good whole, 3s to 3s 2d ; broken, 2s 9d to 3s. Oats—Prime heavy milling, 2s 2d to 2s 3d ; short bright feed, 2s to 2s Id ; Danish, Is 9d to Is lid. Barley (Nominal)— 2s 6d to 2s 9d for malting. Potatoes—Derwents, 50s to 555, f.0.b., sacks in. Butter—Fresh, lid ; prime kegged, to lid, kegs extra. The above grain quotations are ex store or in trucks at Titnaru. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, May 7, New Zealand wheat, 4s 2d per bushel ; New Zealand oafs, 2s 4d ; maize, per 561bs, 3s 4d ; sugar, unchanged. Adelaide, May 7, bhipping wheat is in steady demand at 4s 3d to 4s 4d per bushel. Adelaide town flour, £9 10 s per ton ; country brands, £8 15s to £9 ss. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 8. The wool market continues quiet. 300,000 bahs have arrived to date for the coming colonial suction. The wheat market is firmer. English is is dearer, but foreign and colonial prices are unchanged. Importations are small, and for a foreign shipment just arrived 36s is aGred. 84s 6d is asked for a parcel on passage.
