ELECTION OF SCHOOL COM-MITTEES.
WOODBURY. The following is the report read at the householders’ meeting at Woodbury on Tuesday, the 271 L April;— “Gentlemen, —Your Committee have much pleasure in laying before you their report 6f the past year’s proceedings. “ Meetings The Committee held twelve qrdinary and one special meeting, with aniaverage attendance of five members forfeach meeting. ‘ £ Finances —During the past year the Committee have received from the Board of Education £4418s 9d, including special grant- of £ls Is fi I, there being a balance in handifrom the previous y ar of £2 15» 41, making a total sum of £47 13s 10d, They haire expended £44 19-*, leaving a balance for tha ensuing year of £2 14s 10d, In addition to ibis the Committee have also received from various Bournes (a schedule of which is herewith presented) the sum of £33 15s for school treat and prizes and the erection of gymnastic apparatus for the benefit of the scholars. Out of the above sum they have disbursed £32 17s 4d, leaving a balance in hand of 18s as a nucleus for the next year. “ Repairs—Various repairs have been made to the school and master’s house, but much remains to be done when the Board grant funds for that purpose. “ Condition of School—The attendance has slightly increased during the past year, and the working average is nearly 90 scholars, being a larger number than that of any previous year. The Committee congratulate the parents on the very effective instruction imparted to their children and for their worthy stuff of teachers, and they trust that during the coming year they will second the efforts of tlie staff by making their children attend regularly, for it is only by good attendance, ccupied with diligence on the part of the pupils themselves, that they can become thoroughly grounded in their work and receive what is deserving the name of education. During the past ye ;r the Committee and teaching staff have worked very harmoniously together.” A hearty vote of thanks was given to the retiring members and the Chairman ; also to the teaching staff. Mr Greaves, the head master, responded in a very neat and appropriate speech, The'following gentlemen were elected as the new Committee : —Messrs Dean, Flatman, Hammond, Middlemiss, Gick, Heatley, and Scott. Mr Dean, cn the motion of Mr Flatman seconded by Mr Middlemiss, was re-elected to the chair. Mr Dean briefly returned thunks for the honor, and staled he should use his best endeavors for the good of the school. The meeting then terminated.
