THE GERALDINE FLAT SCHOOL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — I notice in your in your last issue in the report of the master of the Geraldine Flat School to his Committee, that the master states “ that the Inspector shows that reading and writing, the backbone of a primary seebool, have not had the repairs recommended in the previous report, owing to the excess of sewing time.” This I know to be incorrect, and the Inspector must haye been misinformed either by the Master or the Committee, as there was no excess of time given to sewing, there being only one hour twice a week given to sewing in school hours, the excess of a half hour being given after school hours, and therefore could in no way interfere with the teaching by the Master of the school. I also notice in thabove mentioned report that the Master states that the scholarship holder, T. McShane, does not intend to stand for an examination for the renewal of the scholarship as recommended by the Inspector. This is also incorrect, as T. McSbane did intend to stand for the examination, but owing to the Master not having taught her the extra subject (and she also having gone to the Master for the purpose of asking him if he would tench her the extra subjects, but be was absent on a holiday and did not return till a few days previous to tbe examination, when of course there was not sufficient time for T. Mc&bane to prepare) and she then, and only then, declined to stand for tbe examination. Now, Mr Editor, I don’t think that it is at all right for a Master to make such mistakes as the above, and by publishing this letter you will oblige F/irplay.
