COMMERCIAL.
CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS, At the Addington Yards on Wednesday large entries of cattle and fairly large entries of sheep were yarded for the day’s market. Attendance of buyers an average one. Fat Cattle—A large entry; from medium to good quality ; demand very slack ; a portion turned out unsold ; values unaltered. Steers sold at from £4 15s to £7 12s 6d ; heifers, £3 17s 6d to £6 ss; fat cows, £3 10s to £6, being from 17s to 18a per 1001 b. Store Cattle —A very large entry, both in stores and dairy stock. An outside buyer or two imparted some animation to lines of grown cattle, and good clearances were made. Three-year-olds steers sold at from £4 2s 6d to £5 sa, according to condition ; heifers, from £3 12s 6d to £4; two-year-old cattle, from 40a to 47s 6d ; yearlings, 20s to 255. A large number of dairy stock were offered, and fair business was done. Cows, very near calving, sold at from £5 15s to £9 10s, and the same in profit from £3 5s to £7 15s. Fat Sheep—A fairly large number yarded ,’ demand middling, the best quality sheep improved slightly, medium sorts unaltered in value ; crossbred wethers sold at from 8s 9d to 12s per head ; mixed sexes, 6s 3d to 9s ; merino wethers, 3s 9d to 7a per head, being from l|d per lb, according to quality. Fat aheep—Only a moderate entry ; values unaltered. Merino ewes from la 6d to 2s, lambs from 2a 6d to 3s, full-mouthed merino wethers 3a. Fat Lambs A moderate entry. Sales made at from 3s 6d to 6s 6d per head. Pigs—A large entry. Demand not very brisk. CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 23rd April : Wheat.—Tuscan, 3s 5d to 3s Hunters and Pearl, 3s for prime lines, Shrivelled lots firm at 2b lid to 3s id. Oats—Bright milling, 2s to 2s Id ; short feed, is lid ; Danish, Is, 101. Barley—Extra choice, 3s 3d ; medium, 2s 9d to 3s. Beans—2b JOd to 2s lid. Peas—Blues remain at 3s 9d ; other kinds being 2s 9d to 3s. Grass Seed—Ryegrass and Cocksfoot, last week’s quotations. Potatoes—Derwents 40s at country stations, sacks extra. Dairy Produce—Prime butter at lOd to lid. Cheese, to 6d, according to size and quality. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—For best samples there are indications of an improving demand, and a more active tone pervades tlie market ; there are buyers for shipment. Millers are also operating with more freedom, and prices all round are sligbt'y in favor of sellers. Stocks of prime milling are comparatively low, therefore present values are likely to be maintained. Prime milling velvet and Tuscan 3s 7c to 3s 8d; extra choice 3s 91 ; red wheats in good condition, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; medium, 3a 3d to 3s 5.d ; inferior and fowls’ wheat (of which so far there is very little on offer) would bring 2s 9d to 3s 2d (ex store, bags weighed in).
