GOOD FRIDAY.
Yesterday being Good Friday was observed as a general holiday, the banks •od all the shops being shut up. From an early hour parties were to be seen going away on shooting expeditions, while large numbers were passing through in traps on their way to the Geraldine Bush and other places. Services have been held during the week in St. Saviour’s Church, Temuka, both morning and evening, there being good attendances at each service. Yesterday at 7.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. services were also held. At both services the Rev, T. A, Hamilton officiated and de livered appropriate sermons, his text in the morning being Mark xr., 6—15, and at 11 o’clock John xix., 5. At 3 p.m a service was held at St. John the Evangelist’s, Winchester, at which the Rev. Mr Hamilton preached from John xii., 32—8 S, Last evening at 7 o’clock the Bev. Mr Hamilton held a service in St. Saviour’s Church, and preached from I. Pater iii,, 18—19. There was a good attendance at each of the services. On Easter Sunday the Church will bo decorated in commemoration of the Resurrection, aid services will be held at the usual hoots. The offertories on that day will be presented to the Incumbent in accordance with ancient custom.
