VESTRY MEETING.
A meeting of the vestry of St. Mary’s Church, Geraldine, was held on Monday afternoon. Present The Rev. Jas. Preston (in the chair), Dr Fish, and Messrs J. Kelland, W. E. Barker, T. Hughes, and W. Hawke. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read From the Church Property Trustees, acknowledging the receipt of the certificate from the Vestry re the new church, and stating it to be satisfactory with the exception that it did not state whether the building had been insured in the name of the Trustees; also forwarding the Vestry a cheque for the £SO previously applied for.—Mr Hughea s&id the new building bad been insured in the Trustees’ name.—The Chairman stated he had utilised the £SO for paying off some of the liabilities in connection with the new building, From Mr E. Hardcastle, tendering Ids resignation as a vestryman, on account of his having taken an appointment in Christchurch. —On the motion of Mr Barker, seconded by Mr Hawke, a unanimous vote of thanks was passed to Mr Hardcastlo for the active part he had taken in connection with the Vestry. A latter was read re the Anglican Missioners, Messrs 0. H. Boddington and G. C. Mason, stating that the expense of the mission in Canterbury would be about £3OO, and asking the Ves’ry to contribute a share of the local expenses, and also asking them to make a collection for the general fund. This sum it whs stated included the providing of locum tenens to fill the missioners’ places at Home during their absence. The services of the missioners, however, were given gratuitously.— The Vestry expressed their willingness to bear a share of the local expense. It was finally decided to leave the matter till after the Easter meeting.—lt was stated that the missioners would visit Geraldine about the end of May, and spend five days in Geraldine and Temuka. The Vestry passed a moat hearty vote of thanks to the Misses Adami for their present of vases for the new church. The gift had been made some time ago and acknowledged, but as this was the first Vestry meeting that had taken place since, a vote of thanks had not been passed before. It was decided to ask the Hon. Mr Acland to give notice to the Synod of his intention to bring forward a motion for reducing the number of offertorh s. Mr Hughes stated that £37 6i had been collected towards effecting the necessary repairs to the parsonage. Ho thought the detailed account of the collections should he printed, and every collector provided with a copy. It was finally decided not to print them, but that each person could have a copy on applying for it. Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Hawke, Shiere, and Hughes for the trouble they had taken in connection with the repairing of the parsonage and shingling the yard. It was stated that the sum of £ll2 6s 9d had been collected in offeriteries, which would loave the Vtatry a sum of £2 0i 6-i, after paying all expenses. The amount collected up to date for the stipend fund was stated to be £286. This was not quite so good as last year, owing to one or two outlying places not contributing so much as usual, However, the Vestry expected that about £2O more would be forthcoming from Gereldine, which would bring it up to about the same as last year, and it was decided to allow the balance-sheet to stand open till the end of the month, to see what would come in in the meantime. It was decided that the Easter meeting should be held some time within fourteen days after Easter Monday.—The Rev. Mr Preston said he would give notice ©f the date, and the meeting closed.
