TIMARU HARBOR BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbor Board was held yesterday. Present—Messrs J H Sutter (Chairman), E Elworthy, W M Sims, J Talbot, J Wilson, K F Gray, E Acton, and M Jonas. Mr Moody sent an apoligy for non •attendance.—lt was decided to order a copy of Lloyd’s Register for the ensuing year.—The Secretary was directed to supply the Westport Harbor Board with particulars regarding the method adopted in making concrete blocks for the Timaru Breakwater.—The use of one of the pilot boats to take part in the naval display at Oamaru was granted.—The agent of the three wrote stating that the chain of the dredge had injured the rudder of that vessel, and after a slight discussion it was decided that the Board should have the repairs effected.—Correspondence was received from Mr C W Turner and Messis Ewan and Son re supply of cement, and after consideration it was resolved—“ That lenders be called, to be in by next meeting of this Board, for 10,000 casks of cement, the first delivery of not less than 300 casks to be made not later than December next, and the balance m two shipments to be delivered about March or May, 1887.”—It was decided to procure 200 casks of cement from Mr Turner meanwhile.—Mr Elworthy moved, and it was carried unanimously—“ That the Breakwater be extended a distance of 250 feet beyond Contract No. 6 " In the discussion that took p'ace on this motion, it was stated that the Board would have £50,000 in hand when the present contract expired. Ihe Board was new getiing done for £BS wbat had ; before cost £llO. —The Ilnrbor Master reporled the arrival of 33 vessels and the departure of 37 during the month, all of which had been wmked at the wharf. | The Landing Service had landed 700 casks cement. him to procure.—The Engineer’s report whs read. He explained that three monoliths (56 lineal feet) had been laid during the month. He suggested that the approach to the wharf should be widened, and that more cement should be ordered if it was intended to continue the Breakwater. He reported that Moody wharf contract was proceeding satisfactorily, and made a long explanation regarding the breakages and repairs in connection with the dredge Progress. Ho had submitted a report on the dredging in the harbor to the Finance Committee, and had received a tender from Kincaid and McQueen for the repair of the bucket dredge, the amount being £147 10s which he recommended should be accepted.
