THE IRISH LANDLORDS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,-I am sorry the Bank Scheme did not receive better treatment at Mr Rolleston’s meeting lately in Temuka, as reported in the Guardian. The people ought to study more their own interests, and give all the assistance and encourage- , rnont they can to the National Bank_J Scheme, as I believe it would be the making of the country. Don’t you think it would be a good thing if Mr Rolle*ton would try and get the Irish landlords out here, with the millions that they are about to get, as reported ? If they came and settled amongst us, would it not be grand ? It would put your Bunk affair and Sir Julius Vogel’s idea of borrowing ail in the background. It appears tiny will have to clear out, but, if theybome out here, 1 hope they will leave their vices at home. But would it not be nice if they would bring their money and spend it amongst us ? as, you know, most of us could do with some of it just now. Besides, would it not be grand to hare “ their honors ”as bur neighbors. Respecting your Back affair, I think it would be win to have thenamei of alloa the
roll who are entitled to a vote. 1 think that all names should be registered that have a right to be on the roll, and 1 make this my excuse.- I am, etc., John Charles, Bangitata, April 2. ' [Thia letter ought to have appeared before, but was unavoidably held over. It would be a good thing te get the Irish landlards out here ; but, when we have nothing better than further borrowing and oppressive taxation to offer them, it Is not likely they will come. We must 'change our way of doing business before capitalists will throw in their lot with ns. Everyone ought to register his vote, To neglect doing so ia a crime deserving of condemnation.— The Editor.]
