AN INQUIRY.
TO THE EDITOR. Siu, —I sec by your issue of the Bth inst. an account of the accident to George Gallic at the Temuka Railway Station. It appears (hat Dr Campbell stated that the artery of the limb was uninjured, and that no bones were broken. By latest reports I hear the Timaru doctors say that the artery wag ruptured and the leg-bone was broken, and hare performed an amputation. Before lopping off this unfortunate man’s leg, I think Dr Campbell ought to have been consulted, as his skill and experience might have suggested some other means of relief to the poor sufferer.—l am, etc,, Humanity. [Dr Campbell attended the operation performed on Gallic. Nothing could hare saved poor Galfie’s leg, and Dr Campbell gave very little of hope when he examined it at Temuka. He only made a superficial examination ,of the man’s injuries, because, as he said himself, it was no use. He could do nothing but order the man to be taken to the hospital. As regards the rapture of an artery, it is not easily discernible without careful examination. Dr Campbell did not say the artery of the limb was uninjured, but that he found the blood circulating, and be concluded from this that it was not rendered completely useless. Our correspondent can rest assured that nothing was left undone that could do any good to poor Gttllie.— The Editor.]
