TIMARU PRODUCE MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association,’Limited, report for thr week ending April lOth as follows : The tone of the market for all kinds of grain has been quieter during the past week, without, however, any material reduction in values. Wheat—First-class samples of Tuscan are in demand for export at up to 6d, f.o.b. Red chaff ami velvet meet with fair inquiry at 3s 31 to 3s4|l respectively in trucks, Timaru. While present prices may be considered satisfactory to the producers when compared with those current during the past twelve months, a considerable quantity is going into store, on account of farmers, who hope for still bet f er rates later on. Oats—Sydney advices to hand report an exceptionally heavy maize crop, and business in this cereal is therefore limited, buyers being cautious about increasing their present stocks. We quote as present value—ls 9d for long feed, Is IGd to Is lid for abort feed, and 2s to 2s Id for short heavy milling. — Prime malting parcels are taken at 2s 9c to 2s lid.
.. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. TIMARU, Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for the week ended Saturday as follows They have to report a fair amount of business during the week, and they are pleased to notice a slightly improved demand for sheep, with prices a little higher higher than for some time past. The following are particulars of their transactions.:— Pleasant Point Yards.—We held our regular monthly sale at these yards on Monday, the sth inst. The pens were filled with stock, and there was a large attendance of buyers. Theypenned 4978 sheep of all classes, and sold 3743 as follows : —272 threa-quarter-bred ewes at 4s, 200 merino do at 10£d, 742 do do ah 7d, 74 do do at 7d, 540 no do at 6d, 180 crossbred do at 2s 6d, 68 merino do at , 6b lOd, 203 do do at 7a 7d, 330 halfbred lambs at 2s 7d, 40 do do at 2s sd, 450 do do at 3s lid, 165 2-tooth merinos at 2s 2d, 413 half and three-quarter bred 2-tooth at 2s 6d, 9 rams at from 10s to 22s 6d ; 41 store pigs from 7s to 12s ; 8 one-year-old heifers at 37s 6d, 9 steers and heifers from £2 2s to £3 15s, 4 cows and 1 steer (fat), «t £4 3* 6d, 1 steer at £4 10i, 3 cows in milk at £4 10s to £515. Washdyke Saleyards.- The usual fortnightly sale was held at these yards on Thursday last, the Bth inst. Fully an average number of sheep were penned, and all entered with us found purchasers. The sale was v. ell attended, and there was a slight improvement in prices. They sold 158 crossbred 2-tooth at 6s, 207 merino ewes at Is, 100 crossbred lambs at 3s 91, 353 shorn do at Is Id, 177 half-bred wethers, 4 ha.l 8-tooth, at 7s 9d ; 4 store pigs at lie 6d, 9 do do at 10a, 12 do do at 19s ; 4 steers, nearly far, at £4 10s, 3 steers at £3 10s, 9 6*3er« and heifers at £3lss, 11 small stores at 13s to 29a, 4 caws (in milk and springing), from £4 2s 6d to £6 7s 6d. Horses—An average number of horses were entered at their bazaar to-day comprising light draught stamp and inferior weedy hacks. They succeeded in selling a fair proportion of the entry at satisfactory prices to the owners. Good plough horses are enquired for, with few coming forward. Wo quote heavy draughts from £ls to £22, medium £ll to £l3, li glit harness and hacks according to stamp and quality. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS. Store Cattle—For quiet well-grown bullocks there is a good demaud, suitable for winter feeding, but there are few lots offering, consequently there is not much business doing. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. Sheepskins—The various sales held, on the 15th instant were well attended. Country dry crossbreds, low’ to medium, brought Is to 2s 6d ; full wool, 2s 9d to 4s ; do do merino, low to medium, 10 i to -, c 2s_6d ; fnllwoo l , 2s 8d to 4s ; dry and inferior-pelts, Id to 5d ; green crossbreds, Is lid to 2s 4d ; do merino, Is 31 to la 5d ; lambskins, is 91 to 2? Id. Hides For inferior sorts, medium, 31 ; and heavy well-conditioned, arid free from cuts, up to 4d, Exceptionally heavy hides, well trimmed and in good condition, command Tallow.—For prime rendered, up to £18; medium, £l6 ; inferior £l2 per too. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, April 9. New Zealand wheat, 4s per bushel ; New Zealand oats, 2s 3d ; maize (561 b), Ss 4d. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 9. At tc-day’s wool sales 10,400 bales were submitted to competition, no improvement being manifested in the tone of the market. Crossbred wool showed a weaker tendency. Merinos are steady, but without active demand. Hcoured wools are three-halfpence to twopence below the last sales. Up to (he present' date 141,000 bales have been offered, of which 21,000 have been withdrawn from sale.
April 10, The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,750.000 quarters. , Tallow—Fair average Australian beef is quoted at 22s 6d, and mutton at 23s 6d per cwt. The wool market is depressed. Crossbreds from Western Australia are lower. 182.000 bales were catalogued, of which 24.000 were withdrawn.
The wheat market is inactive, but prices remain firm. Australian ex granary is at 36s 6d. The weather is favorable for the crops. ;
