STRAY CATTLE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Now I will remind tho public t) loi/k to (heir gates and fences.so as lo see that they are strong and in good repair, forthegrass will get scarce and many things will boon their land as things areat present. The winter is coining, so prepare y<mr gates »nd fences, for the roads are fail of horses and cattle. It is a hard Job if you have anything to drive on the rojri fr one place lo another, because you g ( | ioto a deal of trouble, owing to as many horses and running at Urge,’ We

are quite over-run with them in the Geraldine district, and something wants doing before winter sets in. If net, look out you that have got feed for the winter, for there are so many things about onr roads and river-bvds that they will be hard put to it to get enough to keep them in the winter, and they are all looking out to see where there is a good chance for feed. Npw there are about one hundred acres (mqre or less) of right good feeding ground on the Orari riverbed from Mr Thatcher’s to Mr Tripp’s boundary. Mr Thatcher . runs his sheep on that and thinks he has a right to it, and almost defies any one from going there. He thinks about fencing norae part of it in so that he can have winter feed, and that is why he does not want a water-race and a ranger. He thinks he would not be able to run his mob of sheep on the river-bed. It is a good piece of feeding ground up there, and he claims it all. So he says'we do not want a ranger and a water-race. But wo must have something to stop this affair or we shall not be able to get about safely.—l am, etc., A Ratepayer.
